So Confused, Advice Needed

So I was sleeping with a girl who decided not to tell me she had both genital and oral herpes until about 3 months in. We had sex regularly, quite often unprotected (stupid I know). After loosing all trust in her we split up, about 2 weeks later I had a bit of a sore come up on the corner of my mouth. It did not start with pus filled blisters but resembled more of a chelitis type sore. It was not painful and after applying carmex to it, it dissapeared after about 4 days. I instantly thought I had contracted oral herpes as it seemed to much of a coincedence to happen this close to having sex with this girl. I went to the GUM clinic shortly after although the sore had dissapeared by this point so I recieved the igM test instead of a swab. The test came back negative and the doctor assured me that this was as accurate test. Soon after my lips became very dry needing constant application of carmex to keep moist, the outer exposed part of the lip almost turning white at some points with a distinct dry and peeled line between the external skin and internal skin. This is very unusual for me and I had never encountered any lips problems before. I then developed a purpleish blemish on my penis just under the head on the outer skin and the head under the foreskin became dry and skaly and constantly peeled. My thighs felt slightly sensitive like they had been lightly sunburnt. I spent hours each night trying to find answers to my symptoms, some sounding like a herpes sympton, driving myself insane as not all of them seem like the typical herpes symptoms. I discovered that there were a lot of sources saying that the igM test isn't worth the paper it's written on so I went back to the GUM clinic asking for an igG test. I was told by the consultant that they would not be willing to test me as they believed the IgM was accurate enough and my symptoms were not typical of herpes, shes said the purpleish mark was probably just pigmentation of the skin and the lips maybe a slight yeast infection so they didnt want to waste there time. I decided to go private instead just for piece of mind. I was tested exactly 6 months after the last time of having sex with this girl. The results came back as:

H.S.V. I (IgG) <0.0100 Index

H.S.V. II (IgG) <0.500 Index

COMMENT : No serological evidence of HSV Type I & II

Infection in this specimen.

Negative : <0.9 Index

Equivocal: 0.9 - 1.1 Index

Positive : >1.1 Index

I thought this would put my mind at ease but I still have herpes like symptoms every now and then that make me still think I have it and that the tests must still be wrong. I went to my GP for some medication for yeast infections just to rule that out and nothing changed. Like recently my lips started really tingling in the same place as the first sore came up, I noticed a very very small pimple in the area. My lips are still dry to this day. I have developed very dry hands, and now a patch of what appears to be rosacea on my cheek. I get a slight stinging sensation sometimes when I pee. All of this has happened in a year after being with this girl. Could it all be linked? It just seems like to much of a coincedence as I always had very healthy skin before this point and never had a problem. I guess I am just writing this as I have just started dating a girl. She is the most lovely girl in the world and seems like the type that would be absolutely broken if she ever contracted a permanent STI and would forever hate me and I would feel crushed if I were the one to give it to her and couldn't live with myself. On one hand I have tests and professionals telling me I don't have it and on the other I have a strong feeling in my gut that I do and that I may be one of the few that have slightly abnormal symptoms and maybe don't develop the antibodies as fast as most. I would just like a bit of advice from any who have had similar experiences or professionals who could set my mind at ease.

Thanks

I would take your IgG results as correct. If you are experiencing other issues, then it's not herpes. Also, *all* girls/women would be absolutely broken by contracting a permanent STD! Look at all of us on here. sad

I'm sorry I didn't mean any offence by that comment I know any female or male for that matter would be broken I just meant she is particularly fragile at the moment and I don't want to be the one to make her life any harder. I promised myself I would not do what the previous girl did to me and would tell any future partner if I had anything so I guess I am just trying to do the right thing and not just you the test as an excuse if I believe there may still be a chance I have it. I think I am just going to have to get a final igG test done, it will be a year and 4 months after being with the girl so I think this would be conclusive and I could believe the results.

No offence taken. I was just pointing out the fact that we're all pretty much devastated on here, especially in the early stages of finding out, maybe always on some level.

As for your IgG results at 6 months, that is already on the conservative side and you were negative, so I really wouldn't worry, but up to you. Also, the skin issues you describe do not sound like herpes at all.

So a little update, I had the type specific igg test done again. About a year and a half after my last sexual encounter with the girl and results came back negative again. I thought this would be the end of it and I could move on but at the weekend I met the girl I said i had started seeing. We shared a kiss or two, this was on saturday. Come monday she has messaged me saying she has a really sore throat since kissing me. She then text me today saying shes really ill, and apparently never gets ill. I think my worst nightmare is unfolding, im so lost. Of course there is a very small chance it could be a coincidence and she could have picked up some other bug over the weekend but I've been wprrying to long and hard about this bloody virus to know this can only be herpes. Why would my blood show no antibodies after this long? Surely if I had no antibodies for the virus then I would be getting constant outbreaks? I'm so scared I don't know what to tell her, she will never forgive me.

You have no antibodies and no real symptoms, because you don't have it. Sometimes it's that simple! Her sore throat could just be a very unfortunate coincidence, like you said. The only way you can ever know for sure (besides what is already pretty damned sure!) is to order the very costly and logistically complicated University of Washington western blot test from the US.
