So confused: On no medication, diagnosed three years ago and one reaction why is that?

How do I say this other then I'm a shy girl who was trying to be smart with sex and happen to meet a guy who pretended to be something he wasn't and I had sexual intercourse with him he cheated on me without me knowing and then have sex with me and gave me this disease that I never knew he had. Couple months later I had a little bit of an outbreak I went to a family Doctor Who examined me and swabs me and then told me that I did in fact have herpes the weird thing about this for me is I was diagnosed three years ago I had one outbreak I am on no medication and I have not had any sign since so does that mean I really have the disease? Or could they have falsely thought I had something. Can someone help? sad I'm 21 I've slept with three guys the current guy I'm with I'm engaged too and he accepts me. But I don't accept myself, I feel like I can't have it. I wasn't one of those girls who had sex at a young age or a lot. I like to be in relationships before I take that step.

If you were found positive by swab, then that is considered an accurate diagnosis, and herpes is for life, so...

However, you didn't say which type you were found to have. It could be that you have Type 1 (same as the cold sore virus), which really recurs.

I can't remember what type they diagnosed me with I was pretty shocked as most and felt it was the end of the world. Maybe I will look into a blood test. It was genital the one time in three years. I never had any cold sores around my mouth or anything. I never did oral win the male that had cheated on me. Thanks for your response trying to get answers, I've read so many people's stories but most say they have re occurring symptoms or sores around the mouth and it almost seems like I don't have it. But that could be me not accepting the fact. But since I've had no re occurrences I'm confused.

If you only have genital HSV-1, then you wouldn't expect to get oral cold sores. Same virus, but two separate infection sites. You can either do the IgG (not IgM) test to find out the type, or better yet, call your clinic and ask for your results. They should still have them.

I mean the swab test is pretty accurate. Did you ever have it type specific to see which one you had? If you have type 1 it rarely occurs in the genitals. Plus generally if you're a healthy person you might not get many outbreaks. If you don't have any current symptoms you should take an igg blood test to find out which type you are.
