So hard waiting for fluoxetine to possibly kick in

Posted , 5 users are following.

had been on sertraline for about 8 years,,,,thought I was feeling ok, weaned myself off........then a few months later realized I wasn't doing so great. Back to a new psychiatrist, have been on fluoxetine 10, then 20, 30,  now on 40 for about 6 days. Have no motivation to do anything, feel like laying on sofa all day, anxious, nauseous, etc. I want to try to keep going with this med since so many have had good results but the wait is so hard. Then I worry if it doesn't work I'll have to taper all the way down to try something else.i need some inspiration😞

No, those increases were done over a number of weeks in between.  Just been on the 40 for 6 days..... I guess you have to wait numbers of weeks on the 40 to see if it helps. I’m so discouraged, have no motivation to do everyday activities😔

KAREN, that makes sense. Sorry I mis-understood.

I have been on Flu for 13 weeks. I started at 5mg and am now on 20 mg For 5 weeks for depression which happened after a long illness.

Fell sick and anxious with diarrhea from time to time.  Will this ever end?

Good luck to you. I hope this ends soon for both of us.

    Hi Karen,

Sorry you are having a hard time. I tried fluoxetine at 40 mg for several weeks and I couldn't take the side effects so stopped. I didn't taper off, which I know is no recommended but I can honestly say I felt no worse stopping cold turkey than being on them.

I know it takes awhile to get into your system but it was killing me. Some people do great with them in time but you have to be really tough to get to that point.

I was worried that I I wouldn’t be able to stay the course ..... have to give the 40 more than 6 days though. I will stay in till my next psych appt on April 5..... hoping for better results by then..... day at a time

You can make it 6 more days. Ive read stories about them working for some people, but it takes time, they weren't for me, I became more of a horrible mess, but everybody's chemistry is different.

      Good luck

You need to take  TWO 40 mg at once. One time a day. Ask your doctor for Vistaryl (hydroxyzine). It helps me better than Prozac. No suicidal thoughts that come with Prozac.

You need to stay away from stressful stuff. If you don't have to work, it's better. You have to make a choice. Your life or all those other things.

Stressful stuff is hard to stay away from.... I need to find a med that helps me get through it..... I’m retired so work isn’t an issue

You basically have to empty your life of anything that causes stress.
