Coming up on 5 weeks post op and very low on energy.  They tell me it's normal.  After all, when you get a TKR, everything in your body is depressed and it takes time for it to come back, not to mention the trauma to your whole body.  Recovery is a long, hard haul.  I didn't expect this either.

I just came back from follow up 7 wks post op and doc says everything I'm feeling is perfectly normal. I hAve good bend but very swollen and pain 24/7. Trying percocet for pain and hopefully it works. Was told I have no restrictions but do what I can and don't overdue it, yes it is a very brutal, long recovery

I'm glad that I found these posts because they are reassuring. I had knee replacement surgery on my right knee exactly eight weeks ago.

I have been doing rehab exercises three times each day and taking Norco twice a day for pain. I believe I am making sufficient progress toward recovery but still feel very tired each day. I take naps in the afternoon. Thanks for sharing your stories. They help me deal with this ordeal called knee replacement surgery.

    I live in Sacramento Calendar

Hi Jim I'm 8 wks tomorrow on my right tkr and I take naps all the time, it's your body's way of telling u to rest. Gl with your recovery and know it's perfectly normal

Hi Pam, I am 6 weeks post-op too, and still taking naps most afternoons since I don't sleep well at night. We just need to listen to our bodies and rest when needed. I start back to work in 4 weeks, so I want to be as ready as possible. I just went for a 90 minute massage today (with my doctor's ok) and I feel like a new woman~I feel energized!

Can't tell you how much better I feel to learn I'm not nuts. I'm 16 days post op and really doing great (walking straight with only a cane and really nothing at home). But several days ago the uncontrolable weariness set in. I am an energetic 72 year old still running my own company etc. By 2 p.m. all I wanted to do was go to bed.  Went to the Dr. today to get some blood work done...have a history of low potassium.  If only I had read these posts first I might  have understood the fatigue "normal" and enjoyed the rests.

It's great that you are progressing. When I first had my tkr back in January I had huge regrets. It's been such a long haul. Never give up it's draining on every level. Sleep when you need to xxx

My op was on 7th July and although i am now walking with crutches - cat napping  during the day, but sleep disturbed every two hours! Cant get comfortable in bed! Told this is normal for at least 3/4 months.

      Hi!

Oh YES! I would often drift off ( according to my family!) right in the middle of a sentence!

The best way to think of the tiredness I think is that when we are sleeping our body is hard at work REPAIRING ITSELF! Look at rest and sleep and tiredness as the body telling you what it REALLY NEEDS.

Sometimes nighttime sleep is hard to come by, so give in to any naps or sudden sleepy times throughout the day. I got my best sleep during the day in those impromptu NAPS!

      TKRs June and October 2015

Doing fine and finally sleeping about three to six hours throughout the night. Be patient. You will get there!😊

    Hi Pam

I was tired also for awhile- common after surgery. I took some natural iron and felt better. It will get better just eat well and rest.

I am almost 3 weeks out from right knee replacement. I am having issues with sleep and hot / cold spells. Being hot natured typically I am not used to cold at all. But, daily episodes of being chilled to the bone with 2 blankets and a hot cup of tea are now common. It's a bit unnerving but I am not running a fever and I have been told that this to shall pass. I just wish it would pass NOW. Therapy is going very well and my range of motion is already 125° so I am pleased with that. The sleep thing is troublesome also. I am 61 years old and a diabetic so maybe those things have something to do with it.

      Hi Deb

I was very tired after surgery, took some natural iron. It does get better, I am 5 months after TKR . I think you are doing very well.

Thank you Barbara, I find it almost a comfort knowing that others have experienced similar issues. I will try incorporating more iron into my vitamin regimen. Deb
