So........when will it "feel like mine"?

I'm now nearly 22 weeks po from new plastic knee cap and metal trochlea. My problem has, for a long time, been with muscle wastage and when I saw consultant yesterday he said restoring full muscle strength could be a good few months yet. Knee is definitely more stable so I know I'm progressing, but my question is will it ever feel completey like mine, or will I always sense that something is different?

well pam they say you dont own the new knee till 12mths has passed and id say that is right its a huge op and sometimes we dont realise that so much healing of tissues and muscles it takes it out of you i only hope when i have to eventualy have to go back and replace them 15-20yrs on (i hope)they might have discovered a better way of doing them with quicker recovery until then we just have to go with what we are given  while you didnt get tkr kneecap and trochea are every bit as painfull and they need to settle in and it takes time for that sounds like your moving in the right direction

It sure does take it out of you. I am capable of doing things around the house and outside, but boy oh boy it wears me out. My energy levels have never been so low. I've just been signed off work for another six weeks, that will be a total of 27 weeks. Although I would like to be back at work I'm still a bit unsteady on my legs and the thought of working again full time makes me wonder how the heck I'll cope with it. I know I'll go back on phased return but I'm not quite ready for even that yet. I'm not good at being patient........but I'm having to learn.......fast!

Yes I am having physio. My GP referred me for some after my physio classes finished at the hospital. He's been on hols for last two weeks so I've just done exercices and been on my exercise bike at home. I think (hope!) My knee is starting to feel better, but my confidencece is shot and I'm a bit depressed (work are arranging for me to have some counselling because I'm adamant I'm not going down medication route). I try to remain positive but some days things just come over me suddenly, so I just let it out, bawl my eyes out...and carry on......but it's not always easy!.
