Some Good News on COVID-19 - Alberta, Canada

Posted , 4 users are following.

It was just announced that some elective surgeries including cataract surgeries will be allowed to resume on Monday, May 4. This comes after a 2 month or so suspension. So, perhaps my surgery will be in October, instead of the originally estimated August...

Great news Ron. They announced the same here and the hospital said I might get my surgery dates this summer. Good luck to both of us!

I had my second eye done one week after my first eye on March 12...3 days later(which was already the weekend with no surgeries anyways, they shut down elective surgeries! the day I went in, the hospital only had a second covid in its emergency room - not even hospitalized...and I almost was going to cancel that 2nd eye! so glad I didn't because I can't imagine someone going in now for this!!

Well the good news did not last long. I sent an e-mail off to the surgeon's secretary to ask for an update. The response that I got was they are operating again, but only a few days of the week are available to them, and they can only do about half the number of operations per day compared to what they used to do in a day. Sounds ugly. They couldn't even predict when I will get in. My math is now suggesting it will not even be this year...

Many things won't be anywhere near normal. Several universities both in Quebec and Ontario announced fall term will be online. Seems early to decide but they must have info that we don't to make that call now.

Not that I trust political statements, but an Alberta official claimed that the restrictions on the number of patients per day will be lifted over time and they hope to be up to 80% of normal capacity in a month or so. But, who knows for sure.

well got news that Ottawa U going to distance virtual learning for Sept fall term. Both McGill and Concordia universities announced same yesterday. Doesn't look good to easing restrictions. Think it will be s long time before groups of 25 or more. Here in NB we can have 10 as long as 2 meters apart.

I am supposed to see a retina specialist but who knows when that will be.

You probably have the best chances in New Brunswick. NB has a pretty enviable record in Canada, probably the best of all provinces.

Green light for next phase - i believe our malls are opening today!

That being said many of us wondering if enough testing done but my way of looking at it is if people were really sick they'd be tested or in hospital.

Think it comes down to airports. Larger cities have more cases due to the travel.

Stay safe - hopefully the restrictions ease up soon for everyone. I don't mind if they ban travel for awhile or keep US/Canada border shut for the summer. Maybe time to enjoy our own country for the summer.

I wish you luck in keeping COVID out. NB is doing very well, but your neighbours (NS, Quebec, and US) not so much! Tight borders would seem to be the ticket.
