Ive taken Citalopram for many years, and found SSRI's are the on,y type that helped me recover from bad anxiety and depression which I'd suffered from for years. They're good meds.
The meds take a long time to work, months, but it's really worth it to stick it through because the end result is good. You might get side effects when you first take these meds like heightened anxiety, insomnia, dry mouth, headache and other things, but if you're concerned about this it might be a good idea to take a very small amount to ease onto them. Take 5mg for a few weeks, then 10mg and see how you go.
I never though I'd ever recover but this type of meds helped me so much.
For me, having to wait a long time for the meds to work didn't seem too bad in comparison to how long I'd been ill, and I was finally able to be rid of anxiety and depression.

Ive read that some people take a fortified drink/meal - used to be called Complan, but think there's others nowadays. Worth looking into if you're feel you're losing weight.
Yep, anxiety is a dreadful feeling. I had it off and on along with depression for 15 years ....... it took over my life. Other anti depressants didn't work, and then I was changed onto SSRI's and within 6 months I recovered and have been well ever since (years now). Citalopram is my 3rd SSRI but only because the first one didn't agree with me and the second one was discontinued. They all worked though.
They may take some time to work and right through to recovery, but it's better than living every day with that awful anxiety. The side effects can be a bit tough to start with, but they do wear off. Recovery often comes in waves too, so along the way you might find you'll start feeling well and then get anxiety again. That's normal, and will continue like through til the end, but each time it gets easier.
Persevere on them, accept all the side effects as they'll wear off, push on and on though all the ups and downs ........... in time you should start seeing results.
