Sore 10 weeks post rectocele op

Had a rectocele repair 10 weeks ago. Recovery slow but generally ok. Very tender and sore when stitches started working loose at 7 weeks, but improved afterwards. But now am having sensation off deep discomfort in vagina again like lump still there. Saw consultant 2 weeks ago and was told it was just scar tissue so I felt maybe it's something I have to put up with. Since then it's got worse and it feels hot. Any one experienced similar?

Hi Catherine - I understand exactly how you feel. I'm 7 weeks posterior repair post op - still feel worse now than I did before. Went for post op appointment last week and she said stitches were still in but I feel the bulge is further back as in the rectum different than before sad I've been advised on here it could be all part of recovery which can take months so I am reassured that could be the case. I have first physio appointment in less than 2 weeks so I will talk to her then if I still feel the same but yours is still early days as well - maybe you also should be checked for an infection if you feel hot and that could make things feel swollen again??? I would go to see doctor x Take care x

      Hi Donna

sounds like you're having a tough time too. I think you're right it's still early days. Let us know how you get on with the physio.

      Cheers x

    Hi Catherine,

Are you on estriol (vagifem) ? This helps eliminate the nippy sorness or pain from scar tissue. If you have thinning walls estriol helps thicken the walls enabling the repairs to take better.

yes I've been put on this. But the problem started the day after I took the first one so I'm wondering if it could have been this that's caused the irritation.

It probably is scar tissue but it can unfortunately get infected no matter how hygienic we are. If it feels worse and more importantly because it feels hot make an appointment or speak to you GP.
