Sprained ankle for 6 weeks cannot walk

Hi everyone!

I injured myself at work, I rolled my ankle and now I'm sitting at home for 6 weeks straight and see little to no improvements. The thing that is not allowing me to walk properly is the back of my ankle. It feels stiff and I feel sharp pain when I try to stretch it. Because of this problem I cannot walk down the stairs, but going up is not a huge deal. It's still swollen on the both sides, although a lot less than in the first week and there are no bruises. However I didn't see much improvement since the second week. Also every time I try to walk a bit my ankle gets immediately swollen and then the only thing that helps is elevating my foot above the heart. Does anyone have a similar problem so we can figure out what's going on here?

Thank you for your respond.

    Hey

Have you had xray to see if anything has broken ? Ankle injuries can take a long time to heal . Im 4 months in recovering from bi lateral ankle break and surgery its very stiff and swollen still , all you can do is stretching exercises as all the ligaments tighten up but it takes alot of patience believe me i feel your pain . Good Luck

Yeah they told me nothing is broken, but I guess I have a 3rd degree ankle sprain. Today I said enough of that and bought myself high quality ankle brace. Been wearing it only 5 hours now and swellness actually started reducing. I'm keeping my food elevated and wrapped into this ankle brace. I'll also be doing more stretches from now on at least 6-8 times a day and see what happens.
