hi have already posted as a reply elsewhere re this...but didnt make myself to clear.
Been feeling really down, confused..anxious and surreal lately. also quite aggresive for no reason. Went to docs today..he prescibed citalopram..may start taking tomorrow.
Has anyone else felt these feelings before taking the citalopram..and ultimately found that these horrid anxiuos feelings have started to go..and now feel better from having them??
also are these symptoms i describe typical of depression?
would really love to hear from somebody in the same boat...or someone who has been through this.....really scared of taking them....thankyou for taking time to read this..aly

I was prescribed 20mg per day ten days ago and have been taking the meds everymorning, I am pleased to say that I have had no side effects as a result.
When I was prescribed I also read the leaflet an was worried about all the side effects, they list so many it is bound to make you feel afraid, I was, but I felt it was worth a go to feel better, and dont forget you can always call your doctor if you are feeling that they are not suitable for you.
I understand that you feel worried and are not sure what you are letting yourself in for, that is only natural but try and see it as a positive step to make you feel better.
Also it is very easy to look at peoples experiences and get the impression that all is bad, I also read this site and I feel that there are more negatives than positives. By the nature of this medication it is not pescribed to people who feel on top of the world anyway, so their experience may be totaly their own interpretetion of what they are going through, and may not relate to your situation.
Take heart from the fact that not everyone feels poorly, rough,or bad on the tablet, just stay positive and think how it is going to make you feel better.
I wish you all the best

I have been on citalopram 40mg for years... well 5yrs in fact and I have been very lucky with no side affects. As the others have said they have to list it in the information notes as a precaution... covering their bums basically!!! I think citalopram is kinda too widely available by doctors nowadays and also us patients hate that stereotype word ANTI-DEPRESSANTS. it makes us worry what other people think, hence this website being great
I may get the odd headache but nothing a soluable paracetamol don't cure. What time do you take your tablet? As I take mine last thing at night just before bed, then I have a good nights sleep. You should always take your meds about the same time of day as that helps!!
I hope this is a little more information for you and wish you the very best!!

yeh i did and still do sometimes what time are you taking your meds i found i could not function taking them in a morning so started taking them at night as i get into bed.it was loads better you really sleep well and i think maybe have less side effects this way.
It did take me a good while to get used to taking citalopram weeks in fact
but i find i only have the occasional bad day now when i do i just need to sleep whatever time of day it is. The sleep makes me feel a lot better i sort of sleep the side effects away.
I think these tabs are desingned to slow you down and if your carrying on as normal your sort of fighting against them so give in occasionally and have some me time relaxing.
Keep going Ally they helped me greatly x

I had a lot of headaches and the occasional migraine before Citalopram and havent had any since. I dont know if it is as a direct result of the Citalopram but I am definitely less stressed now so that could explain why they've gone. Good luck x

And to Aly - yes, I was quite nervous/scared when I got precribed them, before I started taking them...and the first few days I suppose I was holding my breath, waiting for something bad to happen with them. So you're definitely not alone. I guess you were prescribed them about the same time as I was?
