Still Bleeding After Birth

Hi,

I had my second baby 2 weeks ago, my bleeding stopped after a week then I started having big red gushes of blood every day, sometimes twice. There is no pattern to them, it just trickles out like a tap then stops. I’ve been back to hospital twice for tests, they have come back clear for infection but I was told to take antibiotics anyway. Still bleeding red but no one  can tell me why! I feel generally fine other than that. Has anyone else experienced this?

Bleeding after birth is relatively normal because the uterus is shedding the lining and cleaning itself out. Its basically like a period after your birth to clean out the uterus. If you are having dizziness, high heart rate or low blood pressure then that might mean there is some abnormal bleeding but it does not sound like you have that. Just take the antibiotics as you were prescribed.

One thing you can do is have your husband massage the lower tummy so that it can contract the uterus and stop the bleeding faster but again its a natural thing. If you have other questions ask your doctor. Keep in touch
