Back pain now occasionally and I have ( only twice I'm last few weeks) has some bloody mucus. I see specialist end of March so long time to wait and worry. Has this happened to others? Falinia is the best person to help. She helped me when I first started with DD. I was all over the place one day ok the next bad. But with hers and other people's help I realised it was all part of DD   My flare lasted for about a week it was over Christmas so I waited for GP to open by that time I was really bad. I was given strong antibiotics and it helped the worst part but the pain and discomfort lasted for weeks. I was then told I also have IBS so I now know that most times when I am off it it's due to IBS   I take a probiotic and fybergel every morning and mabevarine before meals. I hope this helps   But if you feel you need to see your DR then I would go

Thank you Susan. Yes Felinia is wonderful. I had all the symptoms you describe, I was hospitalised for a week, was ill for weeks. Bowel very swollen. I guess I worry when I see blood. I panic. It's inly a small amount. .. But I know my bowel is still  very sensitive and not quite back to normal. Reassurance is great from people that have experienced this.my doc is very good but I feel reassured more by the gastro specialist. I am an anxious person as well.  I guess I've just got to remember that I had a nasty bout and may still be recovering.

I guess you were on antibiotics in hospital.  Did you take probiotics then and have you continued to take them since?  Doctors often don't tell people that the antibiotics kill off the good bacteria along with the bad stuff and your gut desperately needs the good guys to help it do it's work.  If you were given Ciprofloxacin, studies have shown it can affect your gut flora for up to a year!  (Very possibly longer as the study finished after 12 months). Other Abs affect it for varying lengths of time and certainly for 3 months so you should have been taking probiotics daily.  (Michael Mosley has written a great book about the gut and it's flora, called Clever Guts).

I'm not saying this will help you at the moment but it's perhaps worth bearing in mind in general.

Thanks Miriam. Yes I've been taking them religiously . Those antibiotics really knock you around . And I am definately going to read the Michael Mosley book. I really like him. Thank you .

Watch for fever. Stay on a low residue diet. Don’t get constipated. For back pain I use a heating pad and alter from back to front on low.  I don’t know if you get constipated but Miralax is a wonderful laxative. No cramping and soft stools.

Probiotics really help if you have diarrhea and loose crampy stomach.

Good luck and watch for fever. Don’t delay. Fever is a warning of infection.😘

Thanks Madeline. I never get constipated strangely enough. Never have . At the moment I have the opposite! I am taking a probiotic. Went to my gp yesterday and he said he can see a tear, or fissure. It's not really painful, but probably where blood coming from. When will this ever end. One thing after another . Fed up at the moment. I guess we all are with this thing .

Have you tried Florastor probiotic? It does come in generic.  I had diarrhea bad after my last bout and the probiotic really helped. Hopefully he suggested something that will heal the fissure. It's inside so some cortisone suppositories should help.

I know how you feel and it is depressing but you'll heal soon and by watching the amount of fiber and roughage you should be back to normal soon.  It does take time and I too get impatient especially when you don't know what to eat and if and when these symptoms will go.  I'm told fiber (Metamucil brand)is good for diarrhea but I can't eat much fiber because it really messes my insides up. Good Luck and God Bless. xo
