Stomach looks really bloated recently, is there anything I can do about this?

I'm 22, and I suffer from IBS. I'm fairly tall at just over 6 foot and I only weigh about 10.5 stone so I look pretty skinny in most other areas which makes this a bit weirder.

Lately my stomach is starting to look like I've got a bit of a gut but the rest of me remains skinny looking however when I prod my stomach there isn't excess skin or fat, it feels quite hard which leads me to think it's bloating due to IBS.

Can anyone confirm this and can anyone give me any advice on things to take or things to avoid to try and stop this. It's become a bit of a self conscious thing for me lately whereas I've always been quite body confident in the past.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi there.

I am using activated charcoal pills for my bloating and it helped also for my ibs i drink 1 every morning and evening for 2 days on and two days off. This really helps me with the bloating and also removes all bad bacteria in bowel. Also detox the body. Im not a doctor but it really help me a lot. You can also search more about it before using it.

I'm also tall 5 feet 9,6 inches and 8.818 stones i know how you feel.

    Hope you feel better soon.

The low FODMAP diet helped me a lot. Also avoid chewing gum and drinking fizzy drinks

Other things like dairy and wheat also cause bloating

Thanks everyone. It's gonna be hard to cut out wheat but might be something I'll have to try.

    Hi.

Bloating is caused by gas in the stomach and gas is produced by indigestive food or maybe food is hard to get digested by stomach.

You need to remove potato based food, fried foods, drinks anything cold and sweet, nuts etc. Add probiotics in your breakfast and lunch.

    All the best

I think there can be little doubt that upper abdominal bloating is a common symptom of IBS.  The abdomen feels hard and very uncomfortable. I would say that if it seems hard but not uncomfortable and is a result of IBS that would not be so bad.  I have noticed that my bloating usually took place at night when I was trying to sleep and others have said the same.  Or I had the feeling right after a bit of breakfast and then that would dissipate later when I became a bit more active.  IBS is an inflammation and it feels like one with its various uncomfortable tricks. However, it probably wouldn't surprise you to know that constipation can cause a hard abdomen, too.  Could that be your problem?  But, if this persists, you should make certain it's not something gynecological.  I don't mean pregnancy but some other condition should be ruled out.  Sorry that you don't feel normal.  Young people should be able to enjoy life.  I hope things improve. Oops--I forgot you said you were six feet tall and so are probably not a girl.  However, if some females read my previous post, take note that a bloated abdomen isn't always the result of bowel and stomach problems.
