Stopped Flu Cold Turkey.......

I am afraid I have had just had enough of Flu. They made me paranoid, and strangely enough I feel much better off them. I tried Cit, Ven and finally Flu - none of which suited me. I know I am not going to get off scott-free going cold turkey but GP said if they didnt suit me to JUST STOP EM which I thought a bit stupid taking into consideration withdrawal symptons. Anyway, I did and although I am still quite anxious, I don't feel as if my head is in another world!!! Not saying everyone should stop Flu as for some they work wonders. I was just one of the unlucky ones. I don't know what I am going to do when I go back to GP in a week's time as I don't really think I can go it alone. Need a psychiatrist desperately as they know what medication to give. What do you think out there?

as fluoxetine has a very very long half life, stopping it abruptly should be no problem yeldham27 :ok: it stays in the system for weeks

as regards seeing a psychiatrist, when you see your GP again, INSIST on being refered to a psychiatrist as you feel you are getting worse and can't go it alone, be carefull not to give the GP the impression he/she knows nothing and is rubbish, just tell your GP you feel you need to see someone that specializes in mental health issues to find the right meds/treatment for you

good luck yeldham27, post and let us know how you get on :ok:

    cheers,

Hi Ken. Well, still off the bleeding Prozac (scuse the French but that's how I feel about them). Not doing too badly. Head a lot clearer and not so disorientated, except for sometimes when it feels like it's going to explode - not with pain but pressure and it makes me very dizzy and strange feeling. Also another thing Ken, I wake up every morning (like I am going to die of anxiety, headaches, aches and pains etc. you know the story) with very painful, hot, pins and needles in my hands, up to say my elbows. It has worn off now, but I know it is anxiety as it comes back again when I do get in a state. Ever heard of it?

Good luck - please keep in touch as it helps a lot.

    Best wishes

what happened at the docs marion, did you ask to be referred to a psychiatrist  what did the doc say ??

the aches and pains, pins and needles etc can be put down to depression and/or anxiety, symptoms can be many and varied i'm afraid :?

12 months ago in the depths of it, i ached all over, was sleeping at least 16 hours a day, the rest of the time my limbs were like lead and i felt like i was walking through treacle with lead divers boots on, even making a cup of tea was a mega effort

you really need to get this sorted out by a specialist marion, the chances are it's not gonna go away by itself and the longer it's left to fester the longer it will take to fix i'm afraid :?

    take care marion

    Hi

Marion I just stopped prozac and I had no withdrawel problems. With cit I had so many really bad side effects i didn't notice if I had any bad problems when I just stopped.

I would like to know how you go about getting a referral to a psychiatrist I am fed up of living like this. My gp tried 8 months ago and I was refused on gp letter never even got as far as assessment. Two and a half years I have lived like this and still no further forward in fact I can see its going to be another xmas just like last year.

In two and a half years I think I have had the grand total of about 2 one week slotts where I haven't had really bad anxiety or depression.

Hi, I had a bad experience with Prozac too, lasted a week and came off them, didnt like them at all. Scary stuff.

My doctor gave me Sertraline and they are so much better, hardly any side effects, I feel like myself and generally happier. Prozac is a generic medication, Sertraline has been worked on alot more they are more expensive, ask about them. They are fine.

    Good Luck
