Stopping Zimovane

I wanted to add my thoughts re stopping Zimovane, hopefully they will help others trying to get off of this drug. I started taking Zimovane about 8 years ago, initially due to stress at work. Then my wife was diagnosed with cancer 4 years ago, so I continued taking the tablets. She sadly passed away in 2017. I lost my father a few months before her. At that time stopping Zimovane was not on my agenda. I was taking 7.5mg and drinking, not a good combination. I found the combination of alcohol Zimovane actually made me feel good in the morning. It’s been a long road but gradually and I mean gradually I’ve managed to get down to about 1mg by trimming tablets. In terms of withdrawal symptoms I’ve had tremors, headaches, increased anxiety, agitation and generally grumpiness. I found that each time I reduced my Zimovane the tremors etc would last a few days. Then when they’d stop I cut the medication down again and so on. It would have been so easy at these times to give in and take a higher dose but stay with it and you can kick this drug. I found mindfulness meditation, gardening, music, long walks with the dog and generally keeping myself busy really helped. Now my dose is low enough to stop altogether. Hope this helps, be positive it can be done.

Congratulations, what an achievement!  Thank you for sharing your heartful story and letting us into your life.  You are a tremendous inspiration to others, giving them the encouragement that will help them in their battles with this drug.  I have been off the drug for just over three years after being prescribed it for 19 years by my family physician.  I have a sleep condition which causes my daytime brain waves to be active at night so I cannot sleep.  I was able to control the horrific withdrawal symptoms by using eating raw marijuana (no high and legal in Canada for medical reasons).  I was on marijuana for about 6 weeks only.  Once again, thank you for sharing your story with all of us.

    If I my 2 cents to pj64699

I was exactly the same although I never where through the tragedy and lost. Zopiclone same as above are ONLY MENT to as a short term treatment for TWO WEEKS. Any doc who prescribes more than this is putting you into the hands of Addiction. I too went though the same withdrawal symptoms as pj64699. I sadly already booked went back to the tab as I liked the feeling it gave. I live in south Africa and it main targets the white population. Anyway prolonged use causes addiction and with addiction it only gets worse and worse. Keep to what the insert says not your doc. Two weeks max.

This tablet is dangerous, go look at the side effects. I am going to withdrawing again and thank you pj64699. I hope to never go back but as I say I got addiction and that is hard to break. I will however suffer those withdrawals. You will get your life back after this and probably sleep better.

In south Africa they are already becoming very strict and auditing this medication as it is becoming abused. It's not good. Soon it will be band here and we are a 3rs World County

    I think that says alot
