Strange ponderings in the wee small hours

Isn't it strange the things we think about during the dark sleepless hours in the middle of the night. Thought I would share some of mine...
1. Flies - when a fly is walking across the ceiling how exactly did it get there. Does a fly do a upsidedown flip in flight and land on the ceiling becaues if it does I have never seen it or does it land close to ceiling and walk or does it land on a light fitting and walk.
2. Why is it that shoe repair shops also cut keys. I am struggling with the connection between the two unless it relates to the equipment used.
3. Why do I not see baby pigeons. I see lots of birds feeding their young but never pigeons. Bearing in mind there are thousands of them where are the babies.
There are many more but I won't bore you. What do you ponder during those sleepless hours.

Flies are powerful air force: i beileve they land upside down indeed.
They are avery old species they adapt to everything and anything.
Yep: the shoerepairs and keycutters share equipments and I also think it's marketing: if you go there to cut a key you then remember you need your shoes repaired (and vice versa) 2 in 1 sort of thing.
I can garantee pigeons do feed their young. I watched a funny scene the other day as I was feeding some street pigeons. They all came as they always do cooing and jumping on top of each other disputing food. One was smaller almost white and still peeping. This one didn't know hoe to pick the food from the ground and kept running aroung stealing food from the others beaks. The others tolerated it with a kind of paternal atittude.
So I guess it's the same for all birds.
.
Keep on dreaming !

why does bread with butter and jam always land jam side down if dropped?
here's one specifically for those of us with hand pain/issues: why are kitchen items for the disabled (ie bottle top grips etc) always packaged in sealed packs that require the strength of samson and scissors and two working hands to open???
Why are water butt spigots (taps) always so low down on the butt that it's impossible to get a watering can under it to fill?
Grumble over

I loathe flies but will now look at them with new respect, fancy being able to land upside down and what's more stick to the surface with out gravity exerting its full force.
Pigeons remind me of an amazing sight I saw last year in Paris, where an old man was feeding hundreds of pigeons of all different sizes some of them probably young ones. The memorable aspect of this was he was dressed in a grey coat that seemed to float in the wind so he resembled the birds with outstretched wings, in flight.
A vaguely related discussion I was having with my better half yesterday, was, 'How do birds fly so effortlessly in formation and how do they navigate, especially when some migrate thousands of kilometres from one hemisphere to the other'?
When I have a sleepless time in the night, which is quite often of course, I listen to talking books on my IPod, somehow they put me back to sleep, mostly. The more softer and dolcet the tones of the reader, the more soporific they are.
Sweet dreams everyone.

I have no idea where I picked up that little nugget or why it has stuck when I can't even remember my children's names someday.
Speaking of children and pigeons, I remember when my oldest (now26) was around 3 and we were shopping on our local market watching a whole group of pigeons feeding on seed thrown out by the pet stall holder. After a few minutes an all white pigeon(?) waddled from around the corner, at which point my daughter jumped up and down, laughing as she shouted "look mummy, a naked pigeon!". Much to the amusement of surrounding shoppers. I have never been able to look at or think of these birds in quite the same way.

Out of the mouth of babes - our kids certainly keep us entertained.
My son when about 3 was misbehaving. I said to him please behave because every time you are naughty you give mummy another grey hair. Quick as a wink he said "well you must have been really mean to Grandma" My mum has had silver hair since she was 30!
