strange vision after cataract surgery

Hi, I am only 2 days post cataract surgery. In the operated eye I constantly have brightish light the same as if you've looked at a bright light then looked away - that sort of ghosting...if that makes sense? I am a bit worried about this. It was a complicated surgery due to the cataract resulting from an injury a good few years ago. Just wondered if this is sort of normal to expect? Its not flashing lights (so I haven't pushed the retinal issue panic button yet!).

Thanks Peeps smile

I had light sensitivity after surgery. I had a “rim” effect where it would appear that  light would bounce off the edge of the lens. This all disappeared slowly as healing progressed. What was a major factor was dry eye. So if your dr hasn’t suggested lubricating drops, I do. I use refresh optics one time vials without preservative. Very helpful for me. The steroid drops unfortunately dry your eye out to help with inflammation but we need to lubricate and keep things moist. Hope this helps you as I was not told of lubricating drops for quite some time after surgery. I believe the drops would have prevented some pain and light sensitivity I experienced.

Thank you for the information. I haven't been told about drying and the drops for those, so this may be very useful!

This isn't a rim type things although i did have that yesterday. This is just like having looked at a bright light then away but its there all the time.

      Hi Poodles:

My guess is that your eye is healing and that the "ghosting" will be resolved as the eye heals.

      But that's just a guess.

If it bothers you and persists, then perhaps you should ring your doctor and ask him about it.

      Good luck to you!

Would be interested to know if you find out.  Very curious about the Symfony Lens and those who have experienced it.  Thank you.

Oh yes I forgot about the “ghosting”. I have the restor multifocal toric lens with uv blue light filter so I saw everything red for a few days and it was very weird at first, but faded away. My dr said that the light is so bright during operation that it does take a while for that “ghosting “ to fade. I understand it to be if you were to stare at a bright light for a while then close your eyes, you could still see a ghost of that object.  I’m not sure how bad your cataract was, and now seeing through a clear lens is unusual for the brain to comprehend at first. I think it will fade soon smile

My vision was weird for the day of surgery since the eye stayed dilated the rest of that day and evening.

Only started to look better the next day when the dilation came down. Then it took a month after that before the vision accuity improved from 20/40 or worse to 20/25 or better.

I get that too (in my right eye which is set for close up at -2.25) - I'm now 6 weeks post surgery in that eye.  Mine started about 3 weeks after the surgery, not immediately after.

It only happens first thing in the morning and I think its something to do with waking up in the dark and then turning on bright lights when I get up.  I'm hoping that it will go away by itself - it only lasts about 10-15 minutes and then my vision improves.
