suffered for 22 years and then I found an amazing surgeon

I am 39 and had my first operation when I was 16 for this I have never gone more than 18 months without surgery at some points I have had such a deep excision that I have had over 3 months off work. Due to relocation I have seen many different surgeons and I was fed up with them not looking into why this kept happening and why all they could over me ws excision or closure which to me was only reactive and no one would spend time to look at a more holistic approach . I even had one surgeon who said to me I don't understand why this upsets you so much and how it has an impact on your life!
However after spending over a week on google I found a remarkable surgeon who had a specialist interest in this condition and I payed to go and see him last year. He was amazing he really understood why I was so upset by this and took a different approach. Touch wood I have not had any symptoms which has never happened before I will never be able to thank him enough for how he has given me my life back. He refused to treat me privately and insisted he did it on the nhs. Although he never said anything this to me was his way of saying that I had suffered enough for 22 years! I saw him on a Friday and the following Wednesday he performed the surgery.
My advice to anyone is do not accept that there are not specialists in this area as I did for so long and although you will have to do the ground work yourself it is worth researching the surgeons in your area to find someone who really understands this condition

He did a mixture. He used fibrin glue for some if it and moves the opening so that it wasn't scar tissue. I know it sounds ridiculous but today is one year since I had it and it's the longest I have gone so I am so happy!

Hi
I see this was posted a year ago and just wanted to see how the recovery was from the surgery?
I have had this 5 times in 7 months and desperate for a cure, have been looking for good surgeons and practices for a few weeks now and still pushing my doctors for a second opinion/Scans and referral.
Thanks and hope you are well and rid of this awful, debilitating situation

Three years in September and never had another problem. Absolutely thrilled. I really urge anyone to push for referrals to specialists as they are out there and I wish I had this done years ago

You mentioned that he used the fibrin glue, but what procedure did he do initially? If flap surgery what kind or cleft lift, etc?
Did you go private or have it on the NHS after consultation. I dont mind paying just want the advice and right treatment for me.
Thanks
