Surgery yesterday

I've been reading the posts over the last few week and now feel I can comment myself as I had the surgery yesterday. It's true, the worst bit is the injection! I had local anesthetic and surgery on my right wrist. The procedure lasted less than ten minutes, an hour later I was home. My hand was a little painful last night when the anaesthetic wore off but paracetamol helped. Today it is more uncomfortable than painful. My best tip is to buy a waterproof arm covering so you can shower, wash hair etc as you must not get the stitches wet. I wish I had done this last week as I have to wait for the post now. One thing is impossible to do and thats to put deodorant on with your hand in bandages and it's painful! I was told I could resume normal activity as soon as the stitches are out in 10 days time, will wait and see!

    So pleased it went well.

i used a poly bag and rubber band and stood in the shower with my arm raised whilst my better half washed me. We got into this routine when I was in plaster for 6 weeks.

when does your big bandage come off?  I was lucky that mine was only on for 48 hours though I have heard of people having to keep them on for much longer. I can't see the point and the risk of arthritis being made worse due to restricted movement seems much worse than the risk to the wound. I put the bandage back on for a flight to Dubai at 9 days post op and one day after stitches out. Just thought it was a bit risky with cases etc.

    hope your recovery goes well

    regards Elaine

Thanks for your comments. The big bandage comes off after 48 hours so only another day to go.

Hi. My son was up before my husband so he did the spraying for me, he thought it was hilarious! I have thought of using a plastic bag but they're so cheap and thin these days decided against it. Hopefully my product will arrive soon.

Hi, The best discovery to keep the bandage dry is the plastic gloves you get in hair colour boxes, mine fits perfect.

Hi, could be worth a try, especially when my bandages come off. Not sure I will be able to grip anything for a while tho. Thanks for the info.

Hi. I had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery. First one was ten days ago. I still have stitches in both hands. Yes, the freezing was the worst sting I ever felt. And, the pain seems to get worse not better for some reason. Just incision pain, like a razor going up and down my palm. I have had no complications tho. Im setting up for hand rehab as soon as these stitches come out. Good luck.

Both hands at the same time? You're brave. I have my stitches out next Tuesday and physio on Wednesday. I can't lift anything more than a mug of tea and it's still difficult unscrewing lids. My wrist just feels uncomfortable at the moment and I still have slight pins and needles. Definitely on the ment tho.

My instructions were to "use my hand" and I was given simple finger stretches to do and if In overdo it using my hand it feels like I'm blowing my incision open. Although alot of soreness and bruising  I have wrist pain too, from the instrument he inserted there. I was thinking that the shooting pains were healing nerves.
