I had root canal treatment a couple of days ago after being persuaded to try it rather than tooth extraction. Now my chin and cheek have swollen up badly and I have severe pain not helped by painkillers. I went back to the dentist this morning and she said I have an infection and has given me antibiotics. She said if I don't feel any better in a few days I should go back and see her. Has anyone else had problems after root canal treatment? Does this mean I'll need to have to tooth removed now anyway?

Well let's not jump the gun yet. That's why he gave you the antibiotic. Hopefully the antibiotics will clear up any infection and you'll be on your way. And of course there won't be any more pain as long as there's no more infection. It's only worst-case scenarios that you have to have the tooth pulled and it can happen. It happened to me but it was many many months later. And it did makes me mad because I had already paid for the cap on the tooth and of course the root canal. And then I had to have the tooth pulled. But as the dentist explained there was no way of knowing that the tooth was going to do that. And I don't know if I should tell you this but it really sucks to have a tooth pulled that has had a root canal on it. That's because when it's had a root canal on it as you try to pull the tooth it shatters and then it comes out in pieces.
