Switching from Paxil to Prozac,,,,Anyone?

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and glad to be here. I was on 20 mg of Paxil for 20 years, needless to say, I think it just stopped working. My CNP just switched me over to Prozac. I did a cross taper, I went 7 days on 10mg of paxil and 10mg of prozac, then after the seven days I am now off paxil and on 20 mg of prozac. I think it may have been a quick taper.....the paxil withdrawals are AWFUL....I am wondering of anyone has done something similar and if so, how long will it take for the prozac to kick in??

Hi kati... my old tablets stopped working on me after 15 yrs on them, I’m now on 60mg of Prozac, started off on 20, then 40 been nearly 5mths since I started this drug..

the first two weeks on Prozac were hell on earth for me my depression got so bad didn’t think I would carry on with it, after that I had good days, and bad days, after one mth went up to 40 and things slowly settled down more, then now on 60 and depression as gone, and I’m feeling good, still odd day wen I feel fed up, but next day it as gone..

Prozac is very slow to workbear that in mind, get over the first 4weeks and see how you feel then, as for a lot of us on here it takes that amount of time to start to feel some what better..

So just don’t give up, keep battling through the bad days, as you will get there, it does work for many and the feeling is really good .. good luk keep in touch and let us all know how your going big hug 🤗xx

Prozac takes 12 to 16 weeks to take full effect.

I was on paxil and came off for 4 months before coming onto Prozac and it's hard to come off but you may be gettig withdrawal alongside Prozac side effexts which can be hard to ride out but use benzos if needed
