Symptoms and treatment of anterior rectocele after surgery for posteria rectocele

I've been recovering reasonably well after surgery in July to repair a posteria rectocele. I have recently had dragging pains in my lower abdomain and shooting pains in my legs. I hadto see my rectal surgeon recently, as my rectal fissure has returned, I had surgery for this in May. The rectal consultant recommended a defaecating proctogram, to check out the rectum, but this has  revealed that I have a anterior rectocele. I have an appointment to see the gynochologist who operated in July, and wonder if anyone has had similar problems  after one lot of surgery and if you could tell me what your symptoms were and how things were resolved. It seems to me that I may now need another op to mend the anterior rectocle.

Hi Jo, LadyPink here..I had a cystocele AND rectocele prolapses repaired together in October of last year. The rectocele in particular has been a great success and b.movements are back to normal without needing 'digital help' as before. I am really delighted with the result. The bulge that could be seen protruding from the cagina entrance has now gone too. Obviously as you know Jo the first two to three months post op are the most frustrating when you have to stay off your feet for long periods and take it easy in every way. But I'm sure this will put things right for you once and for all and you'll be feeling like a new woman. Best wishes, LadyPink

Hi LadyPink, Can't find our oiginal forum, so sorry to but in on this one. Can I ask a personal question please. When were you able to have sex again? I am 11 weeks post op for rectocele and we "tried' last weekend. Used plenty of lubricant but didn't manage as was quite painful, like a stabbing pain on the inside and had a little blood after trying. My hubby is great and wasn't fazed but I want to get back to a normal life again. Thank you. Lynne

Hi Lynne, We resumed sex at around 11/12 weeks with extreme caution at first. I was lucky as I was fine with no discomfort but a friend of mine did say "Ask YOUR surgeon not to stitch too tightly". (She had had this operation done three years ago and her stitches had been put in a bit too tight - ouch!) so I did actually ask my lady surgeon to not make things too tight. It's sounds as though probably that's why you found it difficult - hence the bit of blood - or there may even be a stitch still there. I'm sure all is going to be fine though. Just keep trying and relax and the skin will soon begin to stretch. In the meantime, there's lots of other ways to have fun and enjoy mutual closeness. Yes, loads of lubricant is a must at times like this and remember not to rush things - but it sounds like all is going well to me. My husband was 'delighted' with the results by the way. Hope yours will be too. TeeHee. Best wishes, LadyPink

Hi ladyPink, Saw the surgeon yesterday and he says still early days regarding sex and it will get better and to "keep at it" Lol. Assured me that all would be fine. Luckily I to have a great hubby who is very supportive like yours. Although doc is not happy that I am still having immense pressure when sitting/driving and low backache which is worse if can't empty bowels properly. He is referring me to a bowel specialist and has requested a defecating protogram which looks gross, and so degrading. Hoping appointment will come soon. Will keep you posted.Best wishes. Lynne
