6 weeks ago (tomorrow) I sprained my ankle badly during a co-edsoccer game ( rolled inward and forward)
Went to the ER could not stand to bear any weight on foot only to be dismissed for a "sprain" and no fractures- after consulting an ortho that following Monday I was re- examined and X-rays showed more damage. I had a medial Avulsion fracture (not major) but sent for MRI. I was told it was likely a High sprain- Syndesmosis Sparin and sure enough MRI concluded I had torn multiple ligaments- missed surgery by 1 (lucky I know!!).
Needless to say- I have had plenty (slight exaggeration a handful) of sprains playing soccer this one REALLY put me out. I was non- weight bearing 5 weeks and now I am doing slight weight bearing in a boot with a crutch. Started PT too.
My ankle feels like a block. Have numbness near last 2 toes (top foot) was told I stretched the nerves.
Anyone have experience with this type of sprain? I don't like reading much on the web on it because it always sounds awful and how "gait" can be effected or you won't walk the same. I am staying hopeful & determined to get better.
I know many are in the same boat- it's summer here so this can be such a bummer! I like to stay active. Mind over matter.... reminding myself it could be worse and it's just a temporary thing. I know have added a cervical sprain to the mix after a mid step and catching in shower (I need full body bubble wrap!)
I would love to hear from others if you had this type of sprain and the recovery for you! Good vibes to all reading this..... Happy, fast healing to you!!

Hey sorry about your injury. I've had numerous ankle sprains over the years and know how tough they can be especially a high ankle sprain. My girlfriend had a similar situation as you and she needed reconstructive surgery to fix it because the ligaments and tendons in her ankle were so weak her ankle would constantly give out on her. She had her surgery a year ago however and is back to exercising and playing sports again. I'm currently awaiting surgery tomorrow as last Monday I fractured and dislocated my left ankle in a co ed volleyball game. I landed on another players foot and then my foot was twisted at a 45 degree angle. And I agree this is the worst time of year for ankle injuries as like you I like to be active. Hopefully you don't need surgery for your injury and it can heal on its own.Best wishes to you and fast healing to you as well.

Thanks for the well wishes. My injury is severe but my orthopedist assured me I should make a full recovery and can resume athletic activities. I hope that's true.Ankle injuries are tough but the best thing you can do is rest, ice, elevate and listen to your PT. Just be patient with it. Hopefully you don't need surgery on it and you can get back to playing soccer.
