Take great care using Statins

Posted , 3 users are following.

I looked on this site to find how other people have managed using Statins to give me an insight into the drug Simvastatin. My brother used this drug to lower his cholestrol and I now have found out he had an adverse side effect,I am looking for answers. His symptons were difficulty breathing and headaches which the doctor did not pick up on, he died. This is an warning for other users to go immediately to the doctor if you have these side effects,it is rare but the drug could cause lung fibrosis.

Hi ed20, just wanted to offer you my sincere sympathies, what happened to your brother is dreadful.

There is another post on here and also a petition on facebook about the dangers of statins.

I have tried them myself but made the decision not continue with them due to side effects. I have an inherited high cholesterol but then so did my grandmother, she died at 98 having had no treatment whatsoever.

Thank you for sharing this with everyone. Although not many will post a reply there will be many hundreds reading and taking what you have said in.

Again, my sincere condolences to you and your family. Fanny Jane.

    Hello ed20,

I am so, so sorry for your loss, I can't imagine how hard it must be for you and your famliy.

I have just started taking stats this evening, I am on 40mg once a day. I must admit I am really worried & frightened about taking them.

I would just like to say to you, that your posting here is so valuable to so many people. The more people that know in advance of taking them about any possible side effects no matter how rare, could actually save someone's life, SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

Hi all - I'm mjust about to start to taking simvastatin, 20g tablet once a day, to lower my cholestrol. I'm also taking bendroflumethiazide, 2.5g tablet daily, which is to lower my BP. Only side effects I had where taking almlodopine and lisinopril whic where absolutely dreadful, tiredness, muscle aches and pains etc felt I'd aged twenty years but ok with bendro. However, worried about taking further pills, any further advice. I've been told and additionally found out through research that simvastatin block HMG Co-A reductase, so taking CoQ10 may alleviate a statin side effect of rhabdomyolysis. What do you or anybody out there think? Do you take CoQ10 supplements?
