Hi Dave.  I was on Tamsulosin for several years an always took them in the evening.

I was then put on Dutasteride about 15 months ago which I took in the morning.  Had no side effects from either.  Came of both of them 6 months ago following a HoLEP procedure.

It's important to start one and take for a few days, then add the other.  If you have a bad reaction to one, you'll know which it was.  They can cause side effects so be aware of what the information sheet tells you and let your doc know if there is any problem.  I was on Avodart for a long time and kept passing out not realizing it was the med.

Be prepared for the side effects, especially with the Dutasteride.  You will most likely need a supply of viagra.  When I read the fine print I was very concerned with the effects of dutasteride.  Long story short, I went ahead and opted for laser TURP so I could be off the meds.

Hi Scurry, how soon did these side effect start to occur. I am going on holiday soon and don't fancy having problems whilst abroad.

It's early days. Been on Tamsulosin for about 6 weeks. They have reduced but not eliminated the need to pee frequently or the difficulty emptying my bladder. I was referred to a consultant for MRI and biopsy who found no cancers just an enlarged prostate and has recommended taking Dutasteride as well. These have just been prescribed so I haven't started taking them yet as I wanted to check up what others say about taking both together as the common side effects seen far worse than what they are supposed to be treating.
