Tapering off but need reassurance please

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi I have been on Mirt 15mg since 22nd Jan 2016 after a few weeks I noticed I was piling on weight and I noticed my joints had started to really ache I spoke to my GP who said it was a side affect of the tablets which was quite rare but I should taper off them slowly. Fast forward to today I did 3 weeks of 11.25mg and now on my 4th day of 7.5mg and I don't feel ill but I just don't feel with it. Is this normal? How long should I stay on 7.5? And after that should I half that again or just stop taking it?

please any help will be much appreciated

Karen

    Hi Karen

yes what you are feeling is normal. I would halve the 7.5 again, once stabilised half the 3.75 and then half that again! That's how iam going to do it. If you jump of 7.5 you may become poorly. (I did and had to reinstate)

    Good luck ♥♥

Stabilise on the 7.5 first before going lower x

      Hi Karen

when I came off 7.5 I was really well for the first three days, then wham, nausea, dizziness, crying spells and a very low mood. This carried on for 30 days, then I reinstated mirt and almost immediately felt better. Now I am going to taper until the last crumb of mirt! I started 7.5 last night and plan to stay on that for a week, then will halve to 3.75 for another week, and carry on reducing until I can't do it anymore!

It's tempting to rush it but from experience it's really not worth the grief.

      Good luck

      Hi Karen

i a not sure, I will assess how I feel when completely off of it. I have got my first psychiatrist assessment on the 6th, they may have a different view. Lol

      what about you?

In the last 5yrs I have been on Fluxatine, Sertreline, citrapram and now Mirt so I am going to give myself a break as I honestly don't know how I will be without a chemical helping my thoughts and mood. It's a scary thought but I need to do it for myself.

Bless ya, it is difficult because like you say you read so many different views and hear how people's journeys are so different. I must admit I just want to stop taking it but if it's going to make me physically ill I'm not sure. I hope things get better for you

    Hi Karen

It sounds promising to me ... that you dropped from 15 to 11.25 mg for 3 weeks then to 7.5 and have only just felt any signs/sensatons.  If the "not feeling withit" is the only symptom you may well be able to get off Mirt' without too much difficulty.

I would stay at 7.5 mg for at least 2 weeks, maybe 3? before your next drop, that way you give your body/brain receptors time to readjust.  If alls well after that try after little taper.

For some the lower doses are more sedating, for me 7.5 mg was more sedating than 15 mg, maybe better for sleep but not so good for any depression.

    Wishing you well. smile

      Thanks Calmer

i don't think it helped I caught a real horrible stomach bug last week and couldn't keep anything in my body for 4 days only just started to recover from that. The lower dose off 7.5mg isn't really doing anything I'm not sleeping well but I'm also not in that big black hole anymore ether. I can honestly say I feel more positive but I am crying at anything sad.

Once im off these I want to give my poor body a break from chemicals and see what my own mind is up to.

      Wishing you well too x

      Hi Karen,

Sounds like the bug has caused part of the problem to me. If you couldn't keep anything down or in for long you probably weren't getting the full benefit of the mirt in your system for those 4 days. I'd stabilise for a few weeks as Calmer has suggested. No prizes for getting off of them too early.

      Thanks Staz.

Karen, just for the record, youur record, how many days into the taper from 15 to 11.25 mg were you when this bug hit, have a little look back.  I would keep a little journal whilst tapering, sometimes wd symptoms peak at 4-5 days, sometimes for some 2-3 weeks - I am just wondering if this upset could be due to the drop.  Just a thought, best be safe smile
