Terrified of taking first flu tablet. Help?

Hi, this is my first post and hope someone can help me.

I was diagnosed with pmdd 3 days ago but i already knew i had it, the doctor prescribed 20mg fluxotine to take every day of the month, i have read soo much about fluoxatine in the last 3 days that its making me terrified of taking it. the thought of taking the first one is terrifying me as i have a phobia of passing out, feeling dizzy and this is my main concern.I really need to take this as my moods and anger for 2 weeks of the month has got unbearable so i got to do something. I work as a carer with the elderly and they have noticed how tired and sad i look and then after i start to bleed i am back to my normal happy full of life self. My husband, kids and friends also know whats going on and they dread it as it lasts for 2 weeks and they say i change into a different woman.

I am wondering if anyone else was this frightened to take the first tablet? I know everyone reacts differently and dont know why i am so scared as years ago i was addicted to co codomol i used to take 8 a day as i loved the feeling and since comming off that around 15 years ago i found thats when i discovered pmt moods as i never had it before and over the last 5 years i have had pmdd symtoms.

sorry to ramble on and thanks for reading.

    Hi there

I also have pmdd and depression.

All I can say is that you may feel a bit sick for the first two weeks but that settles down and you (like me) should then feel much more relaxed and less stressed and snappy.

Take it, you have nothing to lose.

I was diagnosed with depression a few days ago, although I do believe the symptoms are pms related, as I only have the symptoms for a week or 2 around the time of my period. I too was prescribed a 14 day course of fluoxetine 20mg but I'm also too scared to take them. Loads of my friends have advised me against it calling them 'happy pills' but I can't see how I'm going to resolve my issues without at least trying them.

What I'm going to do (and what I would suggest to you if it is pms related) is to wait until the end of your cycle and then if your mood hasn't improved a week later, then start the course. I'm not a medical professional by any means, but I find it pointless to experience an increased level of depression (albeit temporarily) if there is no real cause to.

I hope that you get better and good luck x
