Test for herpes

Posted , 4 users are following.

My first initial outbreak was in December 2014 (HSV 2 genital). By doing a lot of research and comparing my symptoms with the ones online I realized i had herpes.

I went different times to my doctor but because i didn't show any symptoms anymore she kept telling me that there wasn't any test possible to confirm it.

I had a blood test done later in 2015 and HSV 1 n HSV 2 both came out negative. But i am not sure what test was done.

Right now i am experiencing several small outbreaks again. It just usually consist of one small blister, but it hurts very much.

What test should i ask for that WILL confirm positive for herpes?

So that i can start my treatment for getting less outbreaks?

Ps. It was in The Netherlands where the doctors weren't helping me or giving me any information about herpes. This website has learned me sooo much and i want to thank you all for helping and educating us

When you have your outbreak go to the doctor the first sign of them they will sob you which is take samples from the out break and will be able to diagnose u that way

If you have blisters/ulcers, they can be swabbed and tested by viral culture or pcr. You should do that while the lesions are still fairly new, not already healing. If you have no lesions to swab, then you can do the HSV IgG (*not* IgM) antibody blood test any time after 3 months from exposure/infection.

Thanks, i don't know why the doctors are being so difficult for doing these kind of tests or so poorly informed about this subject. My doctor only takes swabs on Tuesdays and Thursdays what i think is total bs.. will ask for the IgG test

That's a stupid setup! Have you tried a different doctor, maybe an STD clinic? They should know their stuff at least.

They dont have a STD clinic here and if my doctor starts with some bs again i'll just wait till the end of September to switch to another doctor in general (you can switch only after 6 months)
