Tested positive for HSV 2 but my ex-husband did not and I have never been with anyone else.

Help! I am desperate. I am fighting my ex-husband over custody of our 2 young children. I got tested positive for Herpes Simplex 2 with an IGG test result of 1.91. He tested negative for the same test with 0.01. I have only been sexually active with him my entire life. How is this possible? My only thoughts are that possible his body had not produced enough antibodies at the time he got tested. I need answers, I am desperate. My allegations towards him are based on this and now it looks like I'm lying and I fear I might loose this custody battle. Please! Is there anyone out there with answers.

From what I have read you can carry the virus not know you have it for years. Maybe his immune system is stronger. To me this is a strange virus Don't think they will take your children away from you just because of this. Hang in there will be praying for you.

Thank you for your support. I would think my immune system is stronger because I build up antibodies. I still don't get it. We have slept together for 15 years and because we were married we didn't use any protection. I have been through 2 pregnancies and nothing detected then. I really hope I got tested with a false positive. I went for re-testing this morning.

If you have pre-existing HSV1 (whether with or without previous symptoms), that can cause the HerpeSelect test for HSV2 to show a low false positive.

If your husband still hasn't produced enough antibodies (practically none at all) but you have, that would still suggest you were infected first, fyi.

That is the problem. He has not gotten tested again. He got tested less then 3 months after he slept with his mistress. I'm going to have to get a court order on that. I am willing to do anything to prove that I have never been with anyone else. Lie detector test. Anything!...I hope and pray that I had a false positive which is why I just got re-tested.

Unfortunately a low false negative will likely recur if you repeat the same test. Better if you can find a different IgG test kit. HerpeSelect is not the best. There is also the University of Washington western blot, which is the gold standard in herpes blood testing. Google UoW for details on how to order.
