I feel the same, I have been back to work now two months and can see from some posts that we all have to be careful for a year or even for the rest of our lives, no wonder some folks dont want the operation with the risks that can happen if you dont look after yourself or complications set in, I will always be here for advice as I am still living with both hips replaced, getting on fine.

Good luck and speedy recovery to all.

    Ian.

    Hello GloriaJ,

I decided to reply on your later page, this is such a busy forum

we are on page 2 within a couple of days! I have had both hips

done by the same surgeon in the same hospital in Portugal. I am

originally from the north, and would probably have also gone to

the Charnley hospital if I'd still been there.

Several forum members have had Wrightington hips. My surgeon

only does the lateral method, and uncemented.

There are several forum members who have been to Wrightington,

    they will tell the details.

I am pleased with my new hips, but have had my ups and downs, I

    think we all have.

let us know how things go,

    love Cathie

    .

only does uncemented lateral surgeries on hips, perhaps you can

ask the forum if there is a preference at Wrightington. If you get the

right feeling about your surgeon be advised by him.

What does happen is that we all like to be in control of our lives and

our ops, but there is a time for everyone of us where we have to

surrender our control, but not necessarily our independence.

Age-wise, do you have any help in the house? If so, get extra hours.

      Hi Cathie

Thank you for your reply. I am struggling with the forum myself,as you say it is so busy!

I can hardly work out which posts I am following and was rather miffed that my long message had not been allowed.

Still not sure if this is that thread,I think maybe I am doing something wrong.

Anyway thanks for your comments. Don't know about the Wrightington hip, will try to look it up.

Still confused about the lateral method,is that Posterior or Anterior?

There are so many different options and I am trying to understand the implications before I see a consultant.

My choice of hospital was refused,so started to do some research myself. My GP just says that OA is not life threatening and Hip replacement only an option in case of unmanageable pain.

Well I am manageing so far and want to find out all I can before it becomes unmanageable.

I do not have or need help at home, which is why I am anxious about post-op.

Many thanks for all your advice

      Hi Joy,

Somewhere on the forum there are pictures of the three scars,

one inclined  towards the front, anterior, the next one more or less

vertical, lateral, and the third going towards the buttock, posterior.

surgeons have their preferred methods, just as they do with anaesthetics.

Have you had an appointment with a orthopaedic surgeon yet?

i think long messages are more complicated to post, half of my post

took off and I was left with a big space, which you saw. I do use i-pad instead of the fixed computer, but most hippies seem to do the same.

? Do you need to go up and downstairs? Have you considered

how to deal with laundry issues for the early days? For me it wasn't

about managing after, but about making the early days as easy as

possible. Two crutches do make many tasks impossible in my experience.

      best wishes Cathie
