Hi

I am my wife's carer and she used to get systemic psychotherapy in Wales, before we moved to Scotland and her therapist quit his job and now has been not getting any therapy for 2 years, she is on the Scottish highlands waiting list now for 18 months, but there are no therapists available on the NHS highlands apparently, she just has seen a CBT psychologist, but the CBT psychologist refused to see my wife with me present, which is one of my wife's overriding needs, as she does not trust people, this has caused big problems at that moment and made her quite ill. She is getting worse again, big pendulum and mood swings, her problems are anthropophobia anxiety panic attacks depression and borderline personality disorder, has anybody got any tips or knowledge about how I can get my wife an NHS therapist even if we got to travel to a different NHS district?

John, as if its not hard enough, but it seems to be the done thing of seeing people on their own. Ive had CBT & the last day there was a Lady wanting to go in with her son, they said they prefer to speak to the patient alone.

We were chatting in the waiting room & another person said, they do this in case anyone is afraid to open up if there is someone with them, also they said they were told, maybe that person is part of the anxiety cause.

another said she felt that no one can do this for someone else & getting them to face into CBT on their own is a major step in their recovery.

    all good points, I think.

IF your wife knows that you are outside the door, maybe let her check during the session that you are only outside, would that help her?

I hope you find a solution & firstly, your wife gets ease and secondly, you mind yourself also as its so hard on you both x

Well i would be fine with it but she is no , anthropophobia is fear of people and systemic psychotherapy is what allows partners or carers to be there, but some CBT counselors do as well
