Hi Kerry i have the same thickened uterus after having a virginal scan found out i had a polyp 6 wks ago had a hysteroscopy to remove polyp and also asked me before the op if i wanted the mirena coil as they told me it can help to thin the uterus .It does help i find but it can take up to 3 months to settle down and i have bled like spotting sinse so not sure when my period would be now my polyp results come back normal so thats good .Time will tell how things will go with the coil after 3 months though .

Hope this will help you .

my doctor recommended the coil also. i havent decided yet. i do wonder if a bioidentical progesterone cream would do the same thing???

I had a scan few weeks ago and was told i had a polyp which is getting removed next Thursday.

It was also suggested I have the mirena coil fitted as it produces hormones which make it less likely I will get more polyps. I had been bleeding for over two weeks at the time and I must admit I was scared but these women doctors spend most of their day looking into our nether regions so I am going to trust them that they might no better than me about that.

I am a very anxious person and I can guarantee that they will need to give me something to ease my anxiety but I will do as they ask but the decision with you is very much your own.

    Hoping your worries ease....Heather x

hi heather. i am curious if they offered any alternatives to the coil?

No they just mentioned about the coil no alternatives.

I must mention that other than three months on the pill after my second child was born (this child!!!! is 27 next month) I have never been on any form of contraceptive, so I kinda unsure today as the mirena coil gives out hormones unlike the original coil.

I am a bit wary because my only time on the pill made me have mood swings and I'd just had a baby, but I would rather not have bleeding which is quite frightening when it happens post menopausal so really it's double edged sword.

Well another quandary for us women!!!!

hi heather i have appointment to discuss the coil in may to see pro and cons as thickness of the lining may be the normal for me after 3 years no change had many biopsys done i have anxitey so im not sure yet i do agree about double edged sword xx

thats how i feel. and i could be totally wrong here but since the coil gives out progestin an artificial hormone, wouldn't it be safer to use a bioidentical progesterone instead?

What is identical progesterone as they didn't say anything about that to me.

I am going to get a polyp removed next week and they gave me a pamphlet about the mirena coil and said it stopped the lining of the womb thickening and didn't mention anything about putting the coil in at the same time, you know as they are in the area anyway. They also said I had a backward tilting womb (who knew).

I am finally going to add that I am obese and I make more oestrogen and that makes me more likely to get womb cancer/ovarian cancer so the decision is really hard.

      Men are so lucky!!!!

hi heather what was your thickness i was told above 11 was more worrying spoke to a nurse tonight given ive had this bleed twice now and been clear twice chances are low for womb cancer some ladies have thickness as normal and menopause can take 10 years or more to get through i had a friend her lining was 14 & she is perfectly fine no rush yet we have time to think god bless xx
