Thinning bones

Hi all, I'm slightly panicking. After breaking 3 bones in the last 12 months and going through early menopause (started at 43). My gp sent me for a bone scan. I was told I have osteopenia with a T score of -2. I've just read a normal T score is 0 and full blown osteoporosis is -2.5 so I'm panicking. My nan had this condition and was always breaking something and in pain. Has anyone else had a bone mass scan? Any advice anyone?

Hi there, my sister was at -2 also. Her doctor gave her high doses of vitamin D3. She has to take them for life but she avoided osteoporosis. I believe she was taking 5,000IU daily until her level came back to zero. Not sure if she's on the same high dose, but she needs to take it every day.

You might also consider a small dose of estrogen, as this does help. Please do some research on this issue. Better to halp your body be healthy, than to be sorry that you didn't.

Thanks ladies. Gp said I need a follow up in January with another scan to assess the acceleration of bone loss. But I'm going to make a huge effort after Christmas to take supplements, exercise and up the calcium intake. I've been told you can't reverse the score but you can do everything to try and prevent more damage x

I second that.. My spouse always buys cheap pills that might have fillers in it-- I think he could be sorry later down t he road.. I buy good quality ones that are expensive but defiantly worth it-- I feel the difference when I don't take them!!

Hi Kelly, thank you but it's true, you never know what these fillers have in them. Good for you that you buy quality over price. I can feel the difference too.

That is not true to you can't reverse the numbers. But you would need estrogen and progesterone to do it. There are some good authors out there. Please read some information.
