This has been going on too long, what else could it be?

So I have had bowel problems for 13 years. Had every test and medication (endoscopy, colonoscopy, endless laxatives, enemas, stool softeners) nothing substansial showed up so was told it was ibs. Nothing has helped.

I have been told I have slow transit..anismus (rectal muslces dorn work properly) and i have B12 injections every 10 weeks.

I had a laparoacopy earlier this year (suspected endometriosis-but it was negative) however my surgeon said that my intestines were HIGHLY inflammed and "not at all in a good condition"

I am aware thay with ibs you do not get inflammation of the intestines so could this be Diverticulitis???

Or any other suggestions welcomed!

Hi, maybe you need a lot of probiotics? things that may help, coconut oil, olive oil, fermented foods, chia seeds soaked in water and fodmap diet.

Hello. I have tried every diet going with no improvement.

Also I have anaphylaxis to nuts/seeds and alot of oils so finding it really hard to find things to try.

I am almost certain there is more going on. Any suggestions to discuss with my doctor?

Sounds like you need to go to a gi specialist. Nothing you eat will change it if it's inflammation like you described. You need to be checked for inflammatory bowel disease (crohns, etc)

@leeniepie I have been tested for crohns and ulcerative colitis previously but this was about 9 years ago now. Would you push to be tested again?

I would seeing as a surgeon said your intestines look bad. IBS does not cause that

Yes im much the same. Going for more tests as so inflammed. Bloated, slow transit feel yukk. Worth pushing to go again, as 9 years is a long time.

    Alot can change.

Diverticulitis would have shown up in your colonoscopy as inflammed pouches in your colon if you had this.  Some people with IBS can experience more inflammation than someone without IBS.  Has your doctor ruled out IBD such as Crohns, ulcerative colitis, or microscopic colitis?  If everything has been ruled out, you will be diagnosed with IBS. Some people find that nothing helps their IBS which is a chronic condition which can disappear for a while but comes back.  It can also be constant..

Whereabouts was the inflammation?  Was it in your large intestine (Bowel) or your small intestine (stomach)?  If your stomach lining is inflammed, this is known as gastritis.  Has gastritis been mentioned?

Interested in your comment about some people with IBS experiencing inflammation. I was under the impression IBS didn’t cause inflammation. Is this true? Where did you hear about this? I’d be very interested to know where you got this information. Many thanks.

Ibs doesn't cause inflammation it's inflammatory bowel diseases that cause the inflammation or bad bacteria from antibiotic use killing all the good bacteria out.

Here is a possible explanation from Medecine Net

Although some patients may show microscopic areas of inflammation in IBS, the causes are speculative and may include hyperreactivity to bacterial gut infections, accelerated or delayed transit of contents through the GI tract (diarrhea or constipation), and abnormal bowel contractions caused by triggers such as foods or stress.

They can only test for this by testing the tissue under a microscope.
