this is probably the hardest thing to deal with.

I am 18 years old. I had taken a shower Sunday night (it is now currently Thursday), I had shaved my lady parts in the shower. When I got out of the shower, I had to pee, so I did so. & It burned really bad, but I thought that maybe I had cut myself, so I didn't bother worrying about it. Monday, the same thing happened so I was checking my vagina to see if something was wrong and it was just a little swollen. Tuesday, I went to work and broke out with a terrible fever, so I left early and went to my grandparent's house. I had to pee again, but this time it hurt so bad it brought me to tears. So I rechecked myself and I noticed blisters. I immediately started crying and called my mother. She and I went to a walk-in clinic and explained everything. The nurse swabbed me and told me she was 90% sure I have Genital Herpes. she prescribed me Valacyclovir 2 times a day for 10 days. My swab results will come back in 5-7 business days, although I have came to terms that I have it. This is very hard for me. I am in so much pain. The only way I can urinate is if I stand in the shower and let the water run over me. All my glands are so swollen, I can't keep my fever away, my thighs and back hurt so bad. I just need some advice on how to make my outbreak not last so long or what to do to help keep myself from having another outbreak in the future.

I found this website while researching everything under the sun about Herpes, and reading everyone's stories has helped a lot. Thanks.

Hey! So make sure you DONT miss a dose! The first outbreak is always the worst! Kinda makes you realize you have a vagina - when it was never a thought! First off.. don't use that shaver ever again bc if can be contaminated so throw it away! You'll notice some relief in a day or two on the pain. As for fever.. sleep as possible, drink orange juice, and soak in Epsom salt baths as many times a day as you'd like! The warm water will help with the swelling and the salt will help dry the sores. Use a blow dryer when you're done - on cool - make sure the area is completely dry. If the fever is too bad take some over the counter medicines to help break the fever

I'm in the same boat as you, so don't feel alone! I'm also 18 and experiencing my first ob. It is difficult to come to terms with at first, it also caused a lot of arguments with my partner, however it was found that he gave it to me as he has had coldsores so has HSV-1. I felt disgusting and unlovable, but I realised how common HSV is and after joining this forum felt much better about it. Peeing and pooing is incredibly painful, so keep that in mind if your lesions spread to your anus. I was given Aciclovir and some numbing cream as the pain was so severe (your gp or a sexual health clinic can give you this)

Glands swollen and painful, skin painful to touch, sore back and thighs.. yup just like me smile

Bathe in salt water as this helps the sores dry up faster, try not to miss a dose, painkillers!!!!! (but not too many, I managed to overdose and ended up in the hospital with a bleeding bottom!)

Keep taking your tablets and if the lesions have not cleared after the time given, go back to the clinic and you will get prescribed more (I was given extra for future outbreaks).

    Hope you heal up soon!

Remember the first time is the worst! My first outbreak made me so sick the er thought i might have meningitis. 3 years later is rarely a bother in my life. I baepsomget any flu like symptoms at all. OBs are still bothersome but i take my meds and take epsom salt baths, and try to get plenty of fluids. It feels really scary right now but everything's going to be okay. I have a healthy sex life and healthy kids and im the only one with herpes. Best of luck.
