This is really disrupting my life...

Roughly every few days I've been having one loose (mushy) stool with cramps the rest of the day and some nausea, then I'll have days where I go fairly normally, sometimes a bit constipated. When it first started happening I would sometimes get heartburn and pass mucus and nothing else. The mucus and heartburn seem to have stopped now, but the random loose stools, nausea and pain are still happening frequently.
This has been affecting me for 2 months now (started after a particularly stressful event) and it's really getting me down, I have never experienced this before and it has affected my mental health dramatically. I don't want to do anything, go out etc. Should I see my doctor to confirm if this is IBS? What else does this sound like if not IBS?

oops this sounds exactly like ibs, i don't know how old you are but ibs normally affects more women than men and in their 30's too. i hope they sort out a diagnosis for you!

You should see your doctor to confirm whether you indeed have IBS; your symptoms sound like it. Let your doctor rule in/out other causes and don't worry about anything else.

If you have been diagnosed with IBS that is sometimes how it works. Same thing happened to me - seems like out of nowhere! But I was in a stressful time - although it was good stress! The body doesn't differentiate between good and bad stress apparently. Understanding what's causing it and doing what you need to do, like eating better-try FODMAP, and try to reduce stress. It will eventually calm itself down.

i dont buy that stress causes IBS, at all. Everybody has stress. People go through the worst things you could imagine and dont develop IBS. I believe it has a pathology

My IBS began after six months of non stop stress and my doctor recognized this While stressing about not getting diagnosed, my symptoms increased.. Stress is a well known, leading trigger of IBS. If I get extremely stressed and anxious, my IBS flares up! When Iam calm, my IBS is dormant. The stress of an IBS attack often worsens symptoms. Stress related IBS is very real and the gut brain axis is extremely strong. What you feel in your mind can affect the nerves in the intestines which are highly sensitive.
Some people are very resiliant even in the face of appalling stress and their gut remains unaffected while others are not. This is the nature of the human condition. Each and everyone of us has a very unique metabolism and will respond in their own individual way to adverse circumstances. IBS had a variety of causes and stress is only one of them.It is a very complex condition for these reasons and each person has their own individual cause for their IBS. Any doctor will tell you this.
