This time last year

So - last year I was on my way to do my Christmas shopping in west London when I got a phone call with a date for my operation at the end of January (although because of a cold I had my op at the end of February). I struggled through the day in pain ( wasn't using painkillers) and in a frightened haze about the future whilst trying my best to have a nice day with my girls. Yesterday we went Christmas shopping in west London. What a difference I shopped till I dropped ( not literally) had a pit stop and then shopped some more followed by cocktails. A wonderful day. When we got home I went on a long walk with my husband and the dog. It was only when I got to bed that I started thinking about how different it was from last year. Yes it was hard and scary and I had to put the hours in to get better but it was a lot harder living half a life. It's my birthday next week (55) and we are out to celebrate ( in a night club??!!!!) I may even chance a dance or two. Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a pain free new year. May you continue to heal and may the newbies find the inner strength for the op and for the LIFE that comes afterwards.

Hi Catrin and Hapoy Christmas!   Thank you for posting this update, it's very encouraging and inspiring.  You're right in all that you say, it is hard work post-op but worth it.

Keep well and having a great time.

Ah, my friend showed me by lifting her leg up behind - maybe too soon ( 2 weeks post op) for me to do yet. Longing to get to the stage you're at! 😀

Ha. You will be. At lest you are POST op now. Hard to believe almost a year has gone past. Yes you can lift leg but better to slide. Are you having physio? They are best ones to show you safely.

See the Physio on Jan 6 - I'll ask then and stick to the grabber for now!

Wow catrin as they say what a difference a year makes eh, i am only 6 weeks in and notice such a big difference, last year like you shopping in pain hobbling around, taking pain killers, last week we did our food shopping, i walked around on one crutch pushing the trolley, helped pack away mind you hurt later but felt brilliant. Sounds like i am wishing my life away but this time next year i cannot wait🙂

Thank you so much for your inspiring message.  I am due to have my first hip done on the 6th January.  The surgeon says when I have my 6 week review he will put me on the list to have the 2nd one done.  I have been waiting since September 2014 & have lost 3 stones 3 lbs in that time.  Of course I will have to be very careful over Christmas & NY, not to put any of it back & of course I will also have to think "slim" ready for 2nd op.  At the

moment I'm not particularly looking forward to it as I'm 74 years young & my husband is 78, but he is very active & very supportive.  So here goes.

I had my first hip done 18 months before my second, which was

11 weeks ago. I am 79. Last week my husband got bacterial

pneumonia. I have been able to look after him, go frequently up and

down stairs, night and day, and my new hip has been marvellous, though

it is not the way I planned..my husband is very slowly recovering.

      Good luck with your journey.
