THR

Hi all. I'm having a THR on Monday!ππBit anxious . It's the Unknown! I had a full knee replacement two years ago and hear this "should" be a doddle by comparison! I've also had a lot of back & neck surgery in the past.& obviously have arthritis.Have hardly been able to walk the last five months due to the hip.π¦π
My concerns are when I come home.
My biggest issue is I don't have any chair/ armchair that is suitable in height etc. My sofas are low, soft and squishy & my dining chairs are also not suitable. This is a big concern. Also I'm just worrying about day to day getting around, running my home, getting in & out of the car etc.π°π·

Good luck for MOnday, and quick recovery.
If local NHS can not supply a suitable chair, try 2nd hand shops. In my area NHS will provide 'shoes' to fit under armchairs/setees to build up height.

As has already been said you should get any help / aids you need from physio and occupational therapists while you are in hospital. Never be afraid to ask. I have got a chair that matches the sofa and I have used one of the sofa seat cushions to make the chair higher - it works well as the chair has good side arms so I can push myself up but this may not suit your furniture?
Before you leave hospital you will see a physio who will go through exercises with you, practising going up and down stairs etc. and you can ask them about the correct way to get in and out of the car. Β They should give you a handout with all this written down but if not letΒ me know and I can email you a leaflet or you can search the internet as there is loads of info out there even You tube videos!
Day to day I use my grabber a lot in fact I have a couple of them the basic ones dont cost too much and having a spare is really useful. I have one upstairs and one downstairs and have tied a bit of string on them to carry them about on my crutches.
Best of luck for Monday, let us know how you are getting on and if you have any questions there are all the lovely hippies on this forum to help you.
Take care

I have had two hip replacements this year and my chairs were low but Ihave just been able to manage with big firm cushions to reach to the desired height and was ok. Β its only a short time you need them about 6 weeks so I just managed with what Ihad. Β I did however have the toilet raises and pick up sticks and
wedge to sleep with in bed to keep head raised and felt these were invaluable.
all the best and let us know how you get on.
