Reading the posts, I must be the exception to the rule. I was walking pain free, without the use of a cane within 9 days. I only took pain meds for 11 days, and was back bowling in 3 weeks. I am not saying the the 1st week wasn't incredibly hard, but I wanted my life back so I was willing to do the exercises even though they hurt. I am almost 65 and was active, so I am very grateful for such a speedy recovery!

Hi Sharon,
Congratulations on your recovery and thank you for posting on your great results. The positive outcomes are the best encouragement people like myself need who have not yet undergone surgery. The surgery has the reputation for being 90-95% successful [although the definition of success can be misleading] and I think it's great this forum is here for people who's surgeries have come with complications- the support and shared knowledge/experience help to recover however, reading the many less than successful operations is also unerving at times so it always helps to hear and remember its statistical success. Hope you are enjoying your re-gained life without pain. I know I am looking forward toward that day myself.

So nice to hear a good positive story. Good for you for working so hard . Life is so much better for many hippies as the quality of life is so much better. 🎳
Many of us hippies have to work hard for weeks or months to eventually get there. But we all know that most Thr is well with the risks.

I had much the same result twenty years ago at 55 and my hip has given me excellent service over all of those years. Apart from the odd twinge in the first year or so I can honestly say that apart from not running I was not aware of having a replacement hip. I was involved in building and hill farming so lots of heavy stuff. I did not return to hang gliding simply because that required a short run for the take off and landing and I was told that running would reduce the life of my new hip and I was not prepared to risk that possibility. I felt so fortunate to have my mobility and my life back and to be able to continue earning a living.
It wore out in about February of this year in that the poly cup disintergrated through wear and in May I had a revision. On returning from hospital I was not given time to put my seat belt on and as the ambulance pulled away swiftly turning left I was thrown onto the floor and as a result because it was thought that I had suffered a cracked pelvis I was told not to weight bear for five weeks. Once given the go ahead to weight bear I got up and walked, and walked and did the exercises! I took me about six weeks from that point to be feeling fully recovered so I was fortunate on both occasions.
What do I put it down to? Good health, being fit and not overweight, not smoking and only having the occasional drink and a positive attitude and a bit of luck thrown in for good measure.
Cheers
Richard

Walking with a limp will generally slow down recovery and can result in putting ones back out. It is not realistic to give a one fit all recommendation so the friend should be a bit careful with his advice giving IMO.

Sharon, it's very nice to hear about another quick recovery. I, like you, recovered quickly and I like to think that it was a combination of several factors including my age (57), the surgeon, the technique, my fitness entering the surgery and as you mentioned, doing the exercises post op. Unfortunately I think that many people had an issue with at least 1 or 2 of these and possibly more that prevented the "perfect" recovery. We should just continue to count our blessings and hope for continued improvement! Best of luck.
