Three month update

Well it's three months and starting phased return to work next weds . Still in some pain mainly groin and outer thigh and on meds and some pain at night . But getting better and have walked total of 2 miles in last two

Days .

Here's a tip for you tho ... despite lots of people saying they are pain free , for all those not - a lovely new doctor this morning told me is it a massive OP and he has attended some and to be in pain at 3 months is totally normal and it is still early

Days and it takes 6-12 months for you to really forget the hip and stop feeling that lump of alien metal in my hip experience .

Also , for those with groin pain my physio said really your hip is just hanging on by tendons after the groin disrupted so to

Concentrate on that groin muscle/s by any movement that raises your leg up with knee

Bending . So walk about and every step on your bad leg bring knee up and hold for 2 seconds then walk on . Also put a ball or cushion between your knees / ankles and squeeze together for 5 secs then release . You can do this in bed ... once that muscle is strengthened the pain will lessen.

Hope other 3 monthers doing well

Xx

Hi Hazel.  3 months for me tomorrow.  Seeing consultant on Thursday 19th January.  Been in work since the 7 week point but I do work in an office.  Everyone looking out for me, especially the youngsters.  I do sometimes drive for my company from branch to branch using company vehicles, but they wont let me drive until after tomorrow (the three month point), as that is required by our insurers, so that means Monday as tomorrow is the weekend.  Yes I get pain but nothing like the bone on pain I had before the surgery.  I still elevate sometimes and I can honestly say the pain is reducing week by week.  Still doing the exercises too.  I can start some gym work after I see Consultant & physios on 19th, but no rowing machineds until 6/9 month point.  Take care.  Ray

You sound like you are doing really well Ray .. remember to get up and move about tho every 30 minutes or you will stiffen . I found driving quite easy but a bit painful at times x

yes, doing that Hazel.  It's a fine balance of sitting, standing & walking isn't it?  Looking forward to driving again though !!  I still do exercises & at my desk too.  Some of the youngsters in the office even join in, most amusing.  One thing I've noticed from this forum is the difference in support & post op aids you receive in different parts of the UK.  I'm in Wales & our NHS is totally separate from the English NHS.  It seems we get far  more equipment too & we don't have to pay for prescriptions either.  My brother lives in Liverpool & received crutches, toilet riser, sock puller & a grabber.  I had all that plus a bath board, leg lifter, a long handled sponge and a trolley.  I feel everyone in the UK should have the same benefits wherever they live.

Yes I agree . I am in Wales but has the same as your brother but they told me to keep them when I tried to give them back ! Plus a Zimmer . I would be skint if I had to pay for prescriptions I do feel sorry for English patients .

Thanks for the tips!! I'm just now getting over my groin pain. Not to mention to be able to bring knee Up!! I've been doing this on my stairs in garage. As I go up with good leg I bring operated leg up and tap step 10 times and do this for each step. So a total of 30/40x. I'm about 5 mons out from my revision back in August. Never thought I'd be here! Most hardest thing ive had to endure. Still in healing mode for another 5 to 6 months. Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery!! 🤠 LD

Yes .. totally underestimated the time it takes for recovery ... I think it will be a good 6 months to a year and the first three months are just healing ...

Which is why at 3 months people seem to turn the corner . Good on you with those exercises .. the groin ines do hurt a bit so I try to be sensible x
