three months on fluoxetine and still sick

hi there, I've suffered terrible side effects. Started taking flux for IBS, anxiety and PMS.  Having gone through terrible side effects for first few months, started feeling better and thought I was through it. But near the end of my first three months now and I just feel sick all the time. I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago, so I'm prone to acid issues, but this is getting ridiculous. I think maybe this drug isn't working for me.  Anyone else had these problems?

Oh Kirsty, that's awful. What are you going to do? I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow, but wanted to check with other patients on here before I speak to him, so I have all the knowledge I can gather X

As both a fluoxetine taker, and as a someone who works in medicine, I'd ask first, how sure are you that it's the pills (but don't assume I'm saying it's not). Working out which it is, you or the pills, can be difficult and is important. You say the drug is maybe not working- do you mean it's not helping the IBS or anxiety or PMS, or is the side-effects hat are too upsetting.

If they are not treating the issue you went in for that's enough reason on it's own to stop/change the medication. If they were working but you were feeling very nauseous then it's a side-effects only issue

Fluoxetine is meant to start work 1-2 weeks and it's not working by 8 weeks then it's likely not to work at all so they say.

BUT watch out for advice from anyone (including me!). I would estimate that more people coming on here are here because things are not working - so there is a bias towards `problem' situations. IMO that is.

Yes, working out whether it's me or the pills is a very good question. I gave them three months to see if I'd get over the side effects. Even though the initial effects have worn off, I'm stuck with the constant nausea.

i had an endoscopy/colonoscopy last year and they found nothing wrong. With continued IBS problems, my doctor put me on flux. It hasn't helped, and now I'm worse.

so that does make me think it's the drug that's making me constantly nauseas and I'm starting to think my initial worsening IBS problems started with my gallbladder removal, and my age (46) with my PMS getting worse, as symptoms are far worse at my time of the month.
