Tight hip muscles

I am 3.5 weeks THR and everything was going well until I got serious pain down the side of my hip to my knee. (Probably did a bit more than I should have) Physio says it is just really tight muscles and scar tissues, so am massaging with Rose hip oil. It comes and goes, sometimes walking helps sometimes it gets too painful. (I think also I was not walking properly or bending that knee like I should have been) Anyone else had this? Also any ideas for the best product for reducing the scar? Thanks

I'm using E45 cream and 5 weeks post op my scar is supple and fading very nicely. Gentle exercise works best for me. Muscles are improving daily. I'm 70 and think I'm doing well. Rest when necessary but don't forget the exercisesy

Morning Nan. I'm almost 10 months out and I think I'm dealing with scar tissue. Let me be sure I understand you when you say scar tissue as I understand it to be a build up that happens after surgery weeks later that can cause problems if not properly treated, you can't see scar tissue as it is beneath the skin. The incision is the actual cut that you see and that can be tender and can get tight if not properly treated also. Both can be rubbed and massaged but scar tissue involves deep tissue massaging that can be painful. It can also trap nerves which i believe is my problem as I'm dealing with a some serious sensitivity and pain in my thigh. It's concentrated mid thigh and the side of the thigh. Which I think is also hindering fluid movement of the hip as it's very tight and stiff. I don't have any pain when i walk. I had first surgery in July. Dislocated it and had to have revision 3 weeks 2 days later. Also 6 weeks non weight bearing and no hip exercises which put my recovery way back at a very slow pace. As it's important to get moving buy ny dr was very cautious after dislocation. I hope you get to feeling better. Just take it slow as you are still in the early stages of this big operation. Hugs 🤗 LD

Hi Nan, I am 6 1/2 weeks from my THR anterior n I still have knee pain I had it before my surgery n still but not as bad. I believe it was the way I adjusted my walking because of pain. I do my exercises at home no PT my doctor said it can cause more problems. He said walking, stairs are great or stationary bike. I am doing well but at night while sleeping I awake with aching pain even my legs n feet. I am hoping it is just muscular n not just all nerve pain. Once I get up it feels better. Good luck to you.

there are silicone sheets u can use for your incision that help. Vitamin E oil is good. I see both. And to help with the sensitivity of the incision try rubbing it with a cotton ball several times a day once you get used to it then use a dry wash cloth until the sensitivity goes away.

There's silicon gel too. I used it. Twice a day, I started with jojoba oil (but any good quality oil will do the job) massaging it in. Mage Addis the scar, not along it, as this break up the keloid formation. Then I put the gel on over the oil - that means the moisture is retained in the area. I am just over six months out, and have virtually no visible scar and no tightness of the skin. And I still do it.

Thanks, everyone. I get no pain at night, just when I walk. Its feels like it is pulling on the joint. I am trying to walk around as much as possible but stop when the pain gets too bad. I am walking confidently without crutches, so it is frustrating that I cant do what I need to do.

can't help noticing that you are walking without crutches - are you using a cane/stick?  at 3=4 weeks post-op it might be a little bit too early to ditch the walking aids -

your wholebody has been affected by this surgery and you might not be in balance yet - this will put extra strain on your healing hip and might cause little damage and pain ...

Even though some believeto push through the pain, I feel that after THR surgery pain is a warning of your body to stop .. don't wait until the pain gets too bad or intolerable ....

Nan, have you watched the surgery on youtube --- it is major surgery -

I walk without crutches only around the house, but outside I always carry a crutch. I find I walk straighter and use my operated leg better without crutches if I am not leaning on a crutch. I walk for awhile then have a rest, and stop if it hurts too much. As for watching it, No I don't think I could, I would be horrified but I am aware of how major it is, and dont take risks. I have an awful time in hospital, I had serious heartburn, couldnt sleep and I couldn't tolerate the strong painkillers.

okay ... no, don't watch it then -- it is horrific ... however, after I watched it I was so humbled and in awe of my body and how she had to repair the damages - I really did not realize how major this surgery is as it was described to me as a "procedure"  where one just bounces back from in no time ....

you are doing good, Nan -- listen to your body and know that all is well-

      angel blessings

    Hi nan

I am 4 months post op  I too was getting tightness in my hip area especially after walking. I started using bio oil on my scar, but my physio told me to switch to E45 and to massage deep into the scar for 5minutes twice a day as the scar will be very deep. I was having real bother at the top and bottom of the scar and was having bother sleeping on that side. Now four months on I having no real bother with it other than it feels a bit itichy sometimes. I am still massaging it with E45.
