Hi deb, this is completely normal I'm 6 months post op and still get pain and swelling sometimes just ice and elevate and remember to take your painkillers if needed. This is a long recovery and you will have good and bad days. Take care.

I now know it is going to take longer than i expected.
I just thought i should be almost back to normal now.
I got the impession by my consultant by 3 months i would be able to do most things.
If feel totally mislead by him.

Everyone's recovery is different my consultant told me that I should feel better after 3 months but what I think he meant was that i would start to see an improvement by then and I would be off any walking aids and could then start to build up my muscles this is probably what your consultant meant which is probably what your consultant meant as well. You have had a major operation and I know it's frustrating but it takes time for your body to heal. I'm 6 months post op and still have stiffness and aches sometimes and I don't think I will feel fully recovered for another 6 months but my life is great compared to this time last year when I could hardly walk. I went to Rome last month and walked an average of 8 to 10 miles a day without any flare ups so life does get back to normal. Chin up and keep positive
