This might sound silly but me and my husband both work in the same store, he's a manager and that's where we met. I moved in with him and we travelled the 50 mile round trip every day together. He drives, I don't. Anyway at the end of January he's being transferred to another store further away and because of this I'm being transferred to the store where I live now. Sounds good? I'm actually scared in case I fall when I go back to work in 4 weeks. It's a good walk to the bus stop and it fills me with fear because it's so frosty. Has anyone fallen on their knee and not damaged it?

I fell 4 months postTKR i bumped my op leg hard but my other leg REALLY hard ended up in triage getting 28 stitches in took 4 months to heal consultant had a xray done on not legs and said no lasting damage I am now post op on my fall leg so that's 2 TKR and a triage fall in 11 months. It certainly makes you wary. I shall continue to use walking sticks still I'm sure. Can I suggest a walking cane for balance and confidence you can by different colours to suit outfits. Splurge out and treat yourself with a flair xxx

Wow, you have been through a lot haven't you? I'm glad you've no lasting damage. I've got a stick to use if I need it

    Louise,

I carry kitty liter in my car in case I get stuck. Believe it or not it works. Perhaps you can carry a ziplock bag of it in a pocket and if you get to a slippery area just spread some ahead of you to provide traction. Whatever you do good luck and enjoy the new job site.

Yup.  Why no damage?  IT'S METAL!!!  Can you rip a tendon, crack your kneecap, do other stuff?  Yup...but that knee will survive even North Korea's incoming missiles.  We'll all be dead but there will be a lot of metal knees for the survivors to clean up.  Hmmm...wonder what the going rate will be for cobalt-chromium after The Apocalypse...

Hi I had PKR 6 weeks ago and started thinking about the school runs I don't drive and there are no school buses around here for my son so it would mean for me starting to catch buses it has filled me with dread and fear too I'm just hoping I can get to the bus stops in one piece as I have taken a few falls while waiting to have surgery everyone so far has been amazing but now things have got worse with the people who have been helping with school runs so can't keep relying on them

It is quite scary thinking about it isn't it? I'm gonna make sure my next one lands in summertime 😁

Yes that's what I'm hoping for at least I shall feel safer in summer it's been pretty bad here lately with snow black ice and rain I ventured out yesterday on an actual bus though my boyfriend was with me it was still scary and I was panicking a bit by the time I got home I was pretty wiped out and wanted to crash and then today my knee gave way completely luckily I was in my kitchen and grabbed the worktop before I face planted it but now it's made me anxious about whether that will happen again while I'm out and about I have been doing all the exercises that my surgeon and physio have given me but it's still very weak

I know exactly how you feel although you're still in the very early stages. I panic too going out but only on my own. I think I might be fine if it wasn't for the weather. Really Sharon, give yourself a lot more time, you've obviously overdone it because it's not long since surgery. I'm perfectly fine walking, in the house anyway, it's this bloody weather I'm scared of

Thanks hun and good luck think half my problem is I'm stubborn and hate people doing things for me too independent for my own good

    Hi Louise.

My mom had fallen on her knee onto a crramic tile floor a couple of weeks after surgery and she was fine. Not even in pain.

As far as walking- maybe take a cane with you for stability just in case. It may give you confidence along icey walkways.

Thanks for that. It's just the thought isn't it. I've decided I'm going back to work in 4 weeks but I'll take my stick 😁

Chico, I don't think it's balance. We'll not for me anyway. I've lost a lot of confidence through this. My husband is really ill with the flu at the moment so I said I'd go to the shop today. I cried there and back and then broke down when I got home (safe). I was perfectly fine, didn't even take my stick but just feel better when I'm with someone

Understood.  When you start "feeling like yourself" again, all of this will be in the past.  Just takes time.  Stay strong!!!!!
