I'm getting on for around six months post op now and It occured to me this morning, while getting out of my car after having arrived at work, that it seems to be much easier than it was previously. So I paid attention to exactly how I was managing to get out of the car more easily.
It transpires that I still have to have the door wide open, and the seat as far back as possible, to enable me to get my right leg out of the car (right knee being the replaced knee joint), I swing both my legs out and 'ground' them, and then shuffle towards the edge of the seat and using my right elbow/arm as a lever against the outside of the door pillar, use that to come to a standing position. It all sounds very complicated and fairly slow, but it happens 'almost' without thinking about it, and in a couple of seconds. I have no pain and all seems very second nature, but in my heart I know it's anything but natural.
I just wonder if we sort of adapt ourselves into whatever task we're doing, so it doesn't hurt, or whether, we are actually improving.

When I went for my last followup appt with surgeon, he said by one year post surgery date I will definitely feel 100%. So I only have until July 2015 to wait to feel better. Well, better than the pain I had before surgery. I couldn't do anything. Have a nice Christmas.

Just a few weeks ago you'd have been looking for an excuse to avoid going. That's another thing about this op, it robs you of feeling sociable. I just needed to be at home. It was my 'comfort blanket'.

I must admit I thought of excuses not to go and then I motivated myself ...went and really enjoyed it.
obviously I suffered last night but it's a price we pay and it can only get better.
I think my security blanket is starting to get holes in it ...lol

i am getting ready to have a Christmas lunch with friends today, and like you, I'm sure I will hardly be able to walk after getting up! My friends will look at me as if to say " you had TKR - why are you still walking like that" ha.
People who have not been through this think after TKR all the soreness & stiffness is miraculously gone! 😛
hope you are feeling better! Betty

once you're there you will enjoy it I know I did and I was told by one of the women there that she knew someone who'd had a TKR and they were fine after about 4 weeks . ..then she said they'd had a partial which is the same thing ... So I said ...REALLY....
then I smiled sweetly and walked away before I spoiled my manners...lol
today has been a rest day for me apart from doing my exercises...
you enjoy your lunch Betty and smile sweetly like I did
as Lynn said ..at least I went where as I wouldn't have done a few weeks ago
enjoy your day

Thanks Jean, I always try to finagle a way out of social events but find I do enjoy myself once I force myself to get out there!
