Hi I had a TKR on the 13th February and i seem to be going backwards. I could hardly walk today and Ive got that sensaion where I am aware of the prostethic inside my leg. I am still in pain but i am going to reduce the medication of a night because I am sure it is affecting my lower back.

Will I ever get back to normal.

    Hi Mary

It does take time. I was a couple of weeks before you and I am still having pain, swelling and stiffness we all heal at our own rate and no two Β people are the same by what others have said it can take 12 months for everything to settle down have you got a follow up appointment with your surgeon?

In the early weeks and months things are healing, and healing brings all kinds of weird sensations.

Check your temperature so you can make sure you don't have any infection.

There are good days and not so good days. It can be quite confusing!

I found that once I got off anything containing a narcotic I began to feel better.

Keeping a journal helps because you can monitor your progress. It can also help you recall issues that you want to discuss with your doctor.

I hope you see progress toward recovery very soon and experience lots less pain!

I remember those days of, Mary. All normal. Strengthen your quads and eventually it will be the muscle doing the lifting, and not the knee. Mine was dec 14 so I'm 17 months. Not perfect by a long shot but so much better. I can't kneel, or bend right back and I have ti be careful. But I can do anything I NEED to do. Got numer 2 coming up on May 4. I wonder how it's going to be with two artificial knees. Everybody else does it so I'm sure I can too. I'll be 65 in October and still working until the end of the year.Β

    Hi Mary

I'm 14 weeks post op. I had the same feeling it does wear off though. I went back to work yesterday for the first time. Knee was great but muscle pain in the other leg. I love my new knee. Some days you will feel like your going backwards then forward the next. Be patient and keep up the good work 😊😊😊😊😊

I am ten weeks post op, I AV no pain at all just occasional ache, I do get feelings as you say of the prosthetic inside but those are normal there are around 5 laters of stitches inside all healing at different rates I sometimes feel knumbness I can't feel the ride side of my knee at all, it's 6 months on going before you feel right it's very early days. Keep up with the exercises take the pain killers & rest at least once a day with your legs up. Sleep is a good healer.. Ice pack but only for ten minutes no longer and before you exercise you can put a wheat bag or hot water bottle to give it some warmth to exercise. Be patient I am like you impatient but my physio & hydro physio all say I am doing well.

    Hi Mary

As others have said its still very early days. I had my TKR on Nov 18th and still get pain. But it DOES lessen. As far as being aware of the prosthetic i still am. It clunks and clicks on a regular basis. I think it does with some people but not others. Ive also got a rash on my leg which is a swine to get rid of. Have had that almost from day one. Id carry on with the meds for a while. My doctor took me off the strong stuff and left me on naproxen. I only take as and when now so as I say it does get better

    Take care

    John.
