Hi

Just thought i would add my little bit to the forum after my recent Orthopaedic consultation, I have had issues for the past 3 yrs initially with my knee, quickly followed by the Hip and Lumber spine. Diagnosed with Osteoarthritis of the left knee and left hip, Degenerative Disks, and Spinal instability. All likely due to a sewrious RTA i had on a motorbike back in 86. Left leg was left some 17mm shorter than the right due to Compound fractures of the Femur, and tib and fib.

Initially due to recieve spinal fusion and decompression surgery to the spine last January, but the Op was cancelled the day before due to the surgical team's concern's on was this the right course of action at this point.

The focus now is on the left knee first (now just on the waiting list) followed by the Hip once i have recovered from the first op, The Surgeon reckons this could be as early as 3mths after the knee?

After both have been completed the Neurosurgeon says he will review the Spinal issues (the biggest problem pain wise) I am just hoping this is a good sign they are looking at possibly doing the fusion at a later date?

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for reading.

Poor you. Sound like there is a plan in place. If you make a good recovery from knee the hip can be done. One step at a time and pain management and getting what quality of life you can for now, seems to be your only course of action. Good luck - puts my whingeing about one knee and maybe the other one, into perspective. Sound like you are in good hands though and even though the op was cancelled it shows that they are really thinking about the best way for you as an indivudal - stay on this forum its really good as everyone is supportive - take care

OH my, that sounds rough! Hang in there and trust the consultants. Sounds like you'll be in good hands. Stay with the forum, lots of support here. Like Caroline said, it makes my total knee replacement journey a small one. Good luck and all the best to you.

A little update I received a letter from my consultant this morning advising me that I will be getting a refferal to radiology for another MRI scan because  of the previous femur/ tub and fib compound fracture due to the RTA mentioned in my original post. The manufactuer of the jig and knee replacement joint are having to make them for the op?

Once the the manufactuer has the scans and makes the jig and joint I should get the date for the op. Has anyone else heard of this?
