Be sure to get meds for home you will need them. Keeping the pain under control right now is very important....you need to heal. Sleep.....well I hate to say it but mine was very little for 7 weeks. The pain meds effect your ability to sleep, but be sure to take them.
Stay ray on here and ask for advise. Good luck!

Hang in there Eileen, Sometimes the pain is so bad that nothing really helps I did relaxing techniques and slow, deep breathing to help me relax and calm down. The moment we experience pain the muscles contract and that worsens the pain. Try to zone out and relax every muscle in your body - that's what carried me through the worst pain. As for sleep I'm sorry to tell you that sleep will be in short supply for weeks to come. Try to sleep whenever you can because nights are bad and sleep helps you recover so you really need it. Hang in there hope you feel better soon!

I know it takes a while to be able to sleep at night . It becomes a way of life get an hour when you can !! I'm 6 weeks post Tkr & can say now that I am getting a bit more, maybe 2-3 hours at a time. I ICE mine day & night It calms it down. I installed a smaller freezer in bedroom as my surgeon told me I should use lots of ice.im afraid it's just time, it WILL get better just have to give it time. & also at first for the body to recover from the shock of the major surgery. Good wishes for your speedy recovery

You must ask nurses for more painkillers. Im 3 wks post op & was given oral morphine 2hourly as well as paracetamol & something else. Was rarely in much pain as i kept asking for painkillers when i was. Try asking for ice as well if they dont give it to u, that helps ease the pain. Invest in some gel ice pks for when u get home, u can buy them quite cheaply on amazon. U need at least 4, 2 in use & 2 in the freezer as they take bout coupke hrs to freeze. I use ice pks almost constantly during day. I ve got prescription painkillers that help me sleep but still only get bout 3-4 hrs at a time. Im starting to see an improvement now so unfortunately uve got the worst to come b4 u ferl ur turing the corner. Good luck.
