Hi Is there anyone out there with TMJ. Where has this come from? I have suffered for a year. I am at the end of my tether and going out of my mind. I have had a camera up my nose and down my throat and a MRI. nothing found thank goodness. My ears feel blocked and my jaw just hurts all the time. I feel like my cheek is numb  and so painful. I am constantly feeling my neck cos it feels like something is stuck in there. Ive seen 3 GPS and 2 ENT consutants and they all think it's TMJ. i am still going out of my mind with worry. I feel fed up but generally ok. Like this afternoon I went for a 5 mile run. I have a really busy, stressful life but i am not really stressed! I have a mouth guard which i wear. This feeling is insane like I'm being strangled. My collar bone hurts, my eye sockets hurt. My ears feel full. It's like this every day and has been for a year. Also 46 and def peri men which doesn't help. Please reply if you are like me I'm going crazy here!! Thank you

Have you seen a maxillofacial surgeon? They're usually the best for treating TMJ.

No I was referred to the ENT department - after the camera and MRI they discharged me but said my dentist could refer me. Why couldn't they? I don't know. I'm going to see a chiro nect and then back to the dentist. Thank you for your reply

By sheer coincidence, I've just this minute relayed information from my physiotherapist's card to a friend over the phone. I recently saw him for vestibular problems (severe vertigo) and was cured in a 20-minute session. However, I couldn't help noticing that the card mentioned maxillofacial as another of his specialities. I had no idea that physios did this kind of work too and certainly have no experience of it, but it might be another avenue to explore.

I just went to a Tmj specialist and I learned a lot. And of what I learned I would say that you have all the classic symptoms of TMJ also known as TMD. I can't believe of all the doctors and test that you had none of them suggested or referred you to a TMJ specialist. The mouthpiece that you're wearing I'm guessing you bought at a store or something like that, well the TMJ specialist said those are bad for your teeth so you probably don't want continue to use it. Find yourself a TMJ specialist and get in to see him and be prepared because none of this is going to be covered by any insurance, neither medical nor dental. My total cost is going to be $2,300 (I live in Middle USA where things are middle priced.) The point being is that they will make you a mouthpiece that you will wear to bed that will solve your proble. What I was told is that I would wear this mouthpiece for two weeks during the day and night and then following that two weeks I would only wear it to bed only. Of course it'll all depend on what your dentist says you need to do. But what surprised me the most was that he said my carpal tunnel may be from my TMJ and my neck pain which my doctor said was arthritis may actually be from the TMJ as is my headaches. I am so convinced that my carpal tunnel maybe from my TMJ that I postponed my appointment with my Ortho doctor to see if the mouthpiece works to help my hand. The reason why is because during my appointment the doctor poked and prodded around my mouth and jaw and ears but never touched my hand other than to shake it when we first met. But as I'm driving away from the appointment my arm is in awful pain. This tells me that he may very well be right. Another one of my symptoms that I forgot to mention is full ears you mention that as well I've got those too. So good luck to you get yourself a TMJ dentist and get yourself fixed up. I can't wait till Monday when I get my mouthpiece

It is horrible! Im currently seeking out a tmj therapist. My maxiallary surgeon gave me a script for it. She has tmj too. Hoping they can help and give me ideas and such to correct this. It does weird things to the ears and the inflammation presses back so messes with the eustatian tubes i want it to go away. I must stop clenching i am trying so hard but it is when i am asleep. My own gp wants me to Take a sleep apnea test too. Im seeing a rhematoid dr tommorow. i blame menopause.im 49 but had early onset everyone in my family same thing but i get this tmd thing ugh. I already use a solint and they make me a new one every year.  It comes from stress, clenching/bruxism, genetics and habit. Im also trying hypnosis from utube to stop clenching. Funny iwent to the ent twice they never mentioned the jaw either. Rude. They should know better. I figured it because my jaw started hurting eventually. The ent made me feel like i was crazy. Be careful about using painkillers and nsaids. You can use a hot water bottles or the tmj band with little gel packs you heat up. Ten minutes twice day. I have been using arnica gel ..dries fast and making sure i dont clench during the day. they do have  actual therapy for and some try accunpuncture or chiro. I even do magnessium flake foot soaks thinking magnessium will help it. Iw ill methodically try it all. Hooefully it will just stoo and go away. things change on a dime too.
