I was told last November that I have TMJ aka TMD. I do have pain/pressure in head and jaws. It makes me feel horrible! The worst symptom of all is that I get this pressure in my neck and that makes it feel hard to breath. Feels like my neck is being squeezed. Makes it hard to eat. Anyone else experienced this? Could it be something else besides TMD? Anyone have any input?

I have recently been treated for it. I even have dental insurance but it didn't cover any of the treatment. I got the mouthguard and he had me wear it all day and night for 3 weeks then I could go to nights only. But I will say that by the 2nd week almost all my pain was gone and by the 5 week I had no more symptoms at all. I forgot my mouthguard one night and boy did I regret that.
Your symptoms are perfectly normal for TMJ. You just need to get the mouthguard and wear it every night without fail and you will be fine. I should say most people are fine with it. There are some people who continue to have problems and have to go in for more drastic treatments. I can't tell you what all those treatments are and maybe somebody will get on here and tell you of some of them but I know that Botox injections in the jaw are one of the treatments. But I certainly hope that getting a mouthguard to wear at night solves your problem in the same way it helped mine.

Well I tried one of those self fitted mouth guards from Walmart and I used it at night. Didn't seem to help at all. I did visit a dentist that suggested a mouth piece that you wear Day and night but it was going to cost $3000. Insurance didn't cover any of it. How much was yours, if you don't mind me asking?

Yup mine cost $2300 and my insurance didn't cover it either. But my credit card did . Lol So I'm still paying for it. It really sucks but those ones you but simply don't work. My regular dentist offered to make me a guard of sorts for $500 but he said he couldn't promise it would work so he referred me to this TMJ specialist. My hubby and I talked about it and decided it was better to go ahead and spend the big money rather then try the $500 one and have it not work and then have to spend another $2300. But in my case I have chronic pain all over my body from a couple of different conditions and I feel like I should not have to suffer from any other pain if it's treatable.
